Exciting news for gun owners who want to visit NYC! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 8, 2024, the New York City Police Department rolled out an emergency rule<\/a> that now lets non-residents apply for concealed carry permits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This change comes after Gun Owners of America (GOA<\/a>) and the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) took the city to court earlier this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawsuit<\/a> included folks like Newsmax TV Host Carl Higbie, who had been completely shut out from getting a carry permit in New York, leaving them defenseless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erich Pratt, Senior VP of GOA, couldn\u2019t be happier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is great news for the untold millions of Americans who either work or visit New York every year,” he said. “It\u2019s critical that everyone can exercise their inherent right to self-defense, but until now, anti-gunners in New York denied most Americans that basic right.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pratt also made it clear that GOA is keeping an eye on how things play out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will continue to monitor local cases to ensure that NYPD indeed grants these permits to applicants in a timely and non-onerous manner,” he explained. “Otherwise, we will gladly file another lawsuit directed specifically at Mayor Adams and the NYPD.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up until now, New York\u2019s rules were draconian\u2014only residents or people who work primarily in New York could apply for concealed carry permits. And forget about bringing in a permit from another state; New York didn\u2019t recognize those at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That left 94% of Americans, who aren\u2019t New York residents, without a way to legally carry a gun in the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York has been one of the few places in the country where non-residents couldn\u2019t exercise their 2A rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But with this new rule, that\u2019s starting to change. Non-residents now have a shot at protecting themselves while they\u2019re in the Empire State \u2014 a big win for gun rights and self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
