The Colorado General Assembly concluded its 2024 session on May 8th, ending a term marked by significant debate over gun control laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite attempts by some legislators to pass stricter regulations, several major anti-gun bills were defeated, thanks to active opposition from local 2A supporters, NRA and RMGO members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key victories for 2A advocates included the rejection of HB24-1270<\/a>, which would have required gun owners to carry liability insurance, and HB24-1292<\/a>, which aimed to ban a wide range of semi-automatic firearms, including the popular AR-15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another defeated proposal, HB24-1310<\/a>, would have prohibited school employees from carrying firearms on school grounds, potentially impacting the FASTER Colorado program and carry permissions on college campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the session wasn’t without setbacks for gun rights supporters. Among the bills that passed and are awaiting Gov. Polis\u2019s decision are HB24-1174<\/a>, which raises training requirements for concealed carry permits, and HB24-1348<\/a>, mandating secure storage of firearms in unattended vehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, HB24-1349<\/a> proposes a 6.5% excise tax on firearms and ammunition sales, a measure that if signed, will be presented to voters this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
