The focus will be on what resources can be brought to bear after a shocking crime has been committed that once again rocks the nation\u2019s conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biden administration is missing the target, once again, on guns. The focus shouldn\u2019t be on what can the government do after a tragedy occurs. Rather, it should be on what should be done to prevent it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That answer comes down to two efforts: Enforce the law and hold criminals accountable for their crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-table-of-contents yoast-table-of-contents\"><h2>Table of contents<\/h2><ul><li><a href=\"#h-misplaced-priorities\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\" data-level=\"2\">Misplaced Priorities<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-crime-problem\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\" data-level=\"2\">Crime Problem<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-tools-unused\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\" data-level=\"2\">Tools Unused<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-misplaced-priorities\">Misplaced Priorities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the list of priorities for the Biden administration\u2019s gun policies, these have fallen far down on the list behind efforts to create a new taxpayer-funded office to install an extremist gun control agenda,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/fireworks-at-congressional-hearing-on-atf-and-who-makes-the-laws\/?hilite=atf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">craft new laws by executive fiat<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-submits-public-comments-against-biden-administration-proposed-engaged-in-the-business-rule\/?hilite=engaged+business\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">criminalize private firearm transfers<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/commerce-departments-export-pause-is-a-nothingburger\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">halt firearm exports<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/congressman-asks-i-buy-ammo-am-i-on-a-list-somehow\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">illegally spy<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;on the private financial records of Americans legally buying firearms and ammunition and continually&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/president-bidens-fantasy-gun-control-agenda\/?hilite=president+biden+cannons\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>spinning outright lies<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;that come straight from President Joe Biden himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite The White House\u2019s insistence on treating criminal violence as a public health issue, crime is still a very real and very lethal problem this administration refuses to confront. Murder rates in most cities are falling off the peaks witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but some cities report shocking murder rates. Crime is still rampant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That remains, in part, because government officials refuse to report it. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themarshallproject.org\/2022\/08\/15\/see-if-police-in-your-state-reported-crime-data-to-the-fbi?utm_source=The+Trace+mailing+list&amp;utm_campaign=b246e29f22-trace_bulletin_aug_07_2023&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-b246e29f22-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>Marshall Project<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;has been tracking the FBI\u2019s Uniform Crime Report and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/america-has-a-crime-reporting-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">noted last year<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;that nearly one-third of law enforcement agencies were missing from the FBI\u2019s statistics. That\u2019s not because there wasn\u2019t crime. It\u2019s because they didn\u2019t report crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognizing crime is the first step to stopping it. How? &nbsp;By enforcing the law already on the books. That is a hurdle seemingly too high for the Biden administration. The failure starts at the top, with an administration that refuses to enforce immigration laws that have allowed known terrorists to cross into the United States. The Cato Institute&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/illegal-border-crosser-terror-watchlist-released-border-patrol-apprehended-later-what-do-we\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;in February that the U.S. Border Patrol has apprehended 342 illegal border crossers who were on the Terrorist Screening Dataset since 2017. That figure rose to 169 in FY 2023 and 49 this year. That\u2019s just the ones apprehended. How many more slipped across our porous borders undetected?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-crime-problem\">Crime Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cblind eye\u201d to crime isn\u2019t isolated to the Biden administration. Attorneys general, district attorneys and prosecutors are complicit too. Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb was forced to walk back comments made to residents when&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2830466\/dc-ag-brian-schwalb-cannot-prosecute-our-way-crime-epidemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>he said<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;the District cannot \u201cprosecute or arrest our way\u201d out of rising crime rates. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n was&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.laadda.com\/2024\/01\/02\/gascon-abandons-all-murder-victims-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">excoriated<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;by the Association of Deputy District Attorneys for abandoning all murder victims\u2019 families. He&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/articles\/los-angeles-da-george-gascon-defends-law-that-puts-guns-in-the-hands-of-criminals\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">defended<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;a diversion program that allowed criminal offenders to still have access to firearms and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/los-angeles-da-gascon-pushes-gun-control-crime-spike-backlash-releasing-convicted-murderer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>released a murderer from prison<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;after serving only six years of a 50-year sentence. That prisoner was re-arrested within a week of release on gun and DUI charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two Los Angeles police officers were shot and killed by gang members in 2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2871563\/district-attorney-gascon-wont-charge-gun-crimes-but-promotes-california-gun-control-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>after they were released on downgraded charges<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;by DA Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s office. Those felony firearm charges would have kept them locked up. Because of DA Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s policy of not pursuing gun-related charges, they walked out to murder police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several high-profile mass murders also showed instances of when laws that are already on the books were not enforced. The tragic shooting in Sutherland Spring, Texas, was carried out by a deranged individual who was convicted in a military court for domestic violence and was later involuntarily committed to a mental health facility before being dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. That individual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-religion-shootings-texas-massacres-eacaa378a3d5936df282606cc90d5b95\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>should have been prohibited<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;from purchasing firearms but because the Air Force didn\u2019t send those disqualifying records to the FBI, he wasn\u2019t listed in the system as prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tools-unused\">Tools Unused<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/02\/28\/589502906\/a-clearer-picture-of-parkland-shooting-suspect-comes-into-focus\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">exhibited a series of instances<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;when school, county, state and federal officials could have intervened, but didn\u2019t. That included threats with a gun against his own mother and warnings reported to the FBI that the murderer wrote, \u201cIm [sic] going to be a professional school shooter.\u201d The FBI&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-statement-on-the-shooting-in-parkland-florida\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">admitted<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;it failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer in Buffalo, N.Y.,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/15\/us\/payton-gendron-buffalo-shooting-suspect-what-we-know\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>was brought in by state police<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;for a mental health evaluation, but never brought before a judge for an adjudication or consideration for involuntary commitment to a mental health facility. Not one New York authority invoked that state\u2019s \u201cred-flag\u201d law to protect the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer in Uvalde, Texas, made&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/27\/us\/yubo-app-salvador-ramos-threats-invs\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">threats on social media<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;that he intended to murder children at a school a month prior to his heinous crimes and again 10 days prior to when he committed his horrific crimes. He made&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/05\/28\/uvalde-shooting-gunmen-teen-girls\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">threats of rape and assault<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;against former classmates and posted disturbing images on social media. None of this was reported to authorities to stop this criminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer in Highland Park, Ill., previously had knives confiscated after making threats against his family. The incident was treated as a \u201cmental-health issue.\u201d No follow-up was done to make sure he didn\u2019t have access to firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer at the Covenant School in Nashville was being treated for undisclosed mental health disorders and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/mar\/28\/nashville-school-shooting-tennessee-warning-messages-police\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>stockpiled firearms<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;without her parent\u2019s knowledge. That murderer left a manifesto, portions of which&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/newschannel9.com\/news\/local\/leaked-nashville-shooter-manifesto-shows-motivation-behind-attack-kill-all-you-little-f-audrey-hale-aiden-covenant-school-march-schooting-louder-with-crowder\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>were leaked<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;A federal judge told the FBI that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/judge-orders-fbi-hand-over-trans-school-shooter-audrey-hale-manifesto\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\"><strong>document must be turned<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;over to the court for review.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkrn.com\/news\/local-news\/nashville\/covenant-school-mass-shooting\/judge-hears-arguments-for-and-against-release-of-covenant-shooters-manifesto\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"prevention-and-accountability-should-be-the-white-house-mass-murder-protocols\" title=\"Prevention and Accountability Should Be The White House Mass Murder Protocols\">A \u201cshow cause\u201d hearing<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;was recently held to determine if the manifesto will be released to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention is failing if it is meeting to plan coordination after a tragedy has happened. The whole point is in its name \u2013 prevention. The focus should be on prevention and accountability. The tools, tragically, are there. The Biden administration is focused on distraction over prevention.
