It passed 35 to 27,&#8221; D&#8217;Souza noted, highlighting the tight vote and the contentious nature of the debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporters of the bill, like Rep. Elizabeth Epps (D), have been advocating for this change for months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We did it. It is to protect yourself from overbearing government,&#8221; stated Ty WInter (R), the House Minority leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jumping into the fray, the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) strongly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20240415\/colorado-semi-auto-ban-passes-house-and-sensitive-places-expansion-to-be-heard-in-committee\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorados-assault-weapons-ban-moves-to-senate\" title=\"Colorado's 'Assault Weapons' Ban Moves to Senate\">criticized<\/a> the bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This unconstitutional ban on commonly owned firearms is the most anti-gun bill ever passed by the Colorado House,&#8221; declared Travis Couture-Lovelady, NRA Colorado State Director. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further explained that HB24-1292&#8217;s broad definition of &#8220;assault weapon&#8221; includes all semi-automatic rifles, notably America&#8217;s most common rifle, the AR-15, and even extends to banning .50 BMG rifles and various firearm parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-this-should-end-the-hi-cap-mag-ban-debate-forever\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/this-should-end-the-hi-cap-mag-ban-debate-forever\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorados-assault-weapons-ban-moves-to-senate\" title=\"Colorado's 'Assault Weapons' Ban Moves to Senate\">This Should End the \u2018Hi-Cap\u2019 Mag Ban Debate Forever!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the bill now faces its next challenge in the Senate, the state and its legislators brace for more heated discussions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Jared Polis (D) has yet to publicly support the measure, raising additional questions about its potential to become law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Well, the governor has yet to publicly support a measure like this last year when something similar was brought up, he never offered public support. So a lot of questions. This if it could even potentially get vetoed or not,&#8221; D&#8217;Souza concluded, pointing to the uncertainty that lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With significant implications for the 2A rights in Colorado, the outcome of this anti-gun legislative effort will be closely watched by all sides.
