Gangsters are illegally modifying the company&#8217;s polymer pistols with &#8220;switches&#8221; (prohibited auto sears) to create unlicensed machine guns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This lawsuit, a first of its kind, uses Illinois\u2019s deeply misguided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinois.gov\/news\/press-release.26881.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"chicago-sues-glock-over-switch-proliferation\" title=\"Chicago Sues Glock Over Switch Proliferation\">Firearms Industry Responsibility Act<\/a> to hold the gun manufacturer accountable for the actions of criminals.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s right.  It&#8217;s no different than blaming the farmer for the depredations wrought by the wolves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complaint, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, notes the recovery of over 1,100 modified Glocks in Chicago over the past two years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city argues that Glock can fix the problem but refuses to do so.  It wants the company to cease Glock sales to Chicagoans and to pony up for the alleged damages it&#8217;s caused. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Brandon Johnson, a member of the Bloomberg-funded Mayors Against Illegal Guns, expressed his concern in a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/city\/en\/depts\/mayor\/press_room\/press_releases\/2024\/march\/glock-lawsuit.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"chicago-sues-glock-over-switch-proliferation\" title=\"Chicago Sues Glock Over Switch Proliferation\"> press release <\/a>obtained by GunsAmerica.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSelling firearms that can so easily be converted into automatic weapons makes heinous acts even more deadly, so we are doing everything we can in collaboration with others committed to ending gun violence to hold Glock accountable for putting profits over public safety,&#8221; Johnson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eric Tirschwell, executive director of Everytown Law, piled on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRight now, anyone in the United States with $20 and a screwdriver can convert their Glock pistol into an illegal machine gun in just a few minutes,\u201d said Tirschwell.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-queens-homeowners-arrested-after-trying-to-evict-squatters\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/watch-queens-homeowners-arrested-after-trying-to-evict-squatters\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"chicago-sues-glock-over-switch-proliferation\" title=\"Chicago Sues Glock Over Switch Proliferation\">Queens Homeowners Arrested After Trying to Evict Squatters<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe intend to hold Glock accountable for the unconscionable decision to continue selling its easily modified pistols even though it could fix the problem, knowing that by refusing to do so it is exacerbating gun violence in Chicago,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Mark Oliva, managing director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, strongly rebutted the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit is completely without merit,\u201d Oliva asserted in an email to GunsAmerica. He referenced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/109th-congress\/senate-bill\/397\/text\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"chicago-sues-glock-over-switch-proliferation\" title=\"Chicago Sues Glock Over Switch Proliferation\">Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act<\/a>, emphasizing that Glock manufactures lawful, non-defective products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mayor Brandon Johnson should re-examine his unwillingness to hold the criminals accountable for their crimes,&#8221; he added. &#8220;The residents of Chicago are suffering from his soft-on-crime policies.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This lawsuit is &#8220;frivolous&#8221; said Oliva, &#8220;but we should expect no less from the same mayor who sued automakers<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-sues-automakers-car-theft-crisis-gets-worse\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"chicago-sues-glock-over-switch-proliferation\" title=\"Chicago Sues Glock Over Switch Proliferation\"> because criminals stole their vehicles.<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oliva wasn&#8217;t making that last part up.  Mayor Johnson literally sued car makers last year for selling cars that were too easy to steal.
