Back in the day, GOA helped expose a 1993 CDC \u201cstudy\u201d which blatantly recommended a national gun purchase registry and criminalization of possession of unregistered handguns.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[i]<\/a>&nbsp;Around the same time a CDC spokesman Dr. Mark Rosenberg made a famously tyrannical comment that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe need to revolutionize the way we look at guns, like what we did with cigarettes \u2026 It used to be that smoking was a glamour symbol\u2014cool, sexy, macho. Now it is dirty, deadly\u2014and banned.\u201d<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn2\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[ii]<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This led to the creation of what was known as the \u201cDickey Amendment\u201d\u2014which has been included in every government funding bill since 1994. It\u2019s very simple: \u201cNone of the funds made available in this title may be used, in whole or in part, to advocate or promote gun control.\u201d Today, the Centers for Disease Control interprets the Dickey Amendment language: \u201cto mean that CDC\u2019s funds may not be spent on political action or other activities designed to affect the passage of specific Federal, State, or local legislation intended to restrict or control the purchase or use of firearms.\u201d<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn3\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Yet, the federal government has been ignoring Congress for some time now.&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong>President Obama signed an executive order calling \u201cgun violence\u201d a \u201cserious public health issue,\u201d directing the CDC to fund research on gun violence, causes and prevention.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[iv]<\/a>&nbsp;So CDC spent $10 million to begin conducting \u201c[r]esearch on risk and protective factors will identify factors associated with accessing and carrying guns [and] evaluate the potential health risk and benefits of having a firearm in the home.\u201d<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn5\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[v]<\/a>&nbsp;Also, during the&nbsp;<em>Fix NICS<\/em>&nbsp;debacle in 2018, Congress gave&nbsp;<em>more&nbsp;<\/em>money to help circumvent the Dickey Amendment. Ever since, Congress has been throwing tax dollars at gun control research, but it is called \u201cFirearm Injury and Mortality Prevention Research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Nancy Pelosi\u2019s Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill there was a total of $60 million in gun control research funding.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn6\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[vi]<\/a>&nbsp;This year, Republicans didn\u2019t include any of this funding in the House CDC and NIH funding\u2014which is strong.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn7\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[vii]<\/a>&nbsp;On the other hand, Senate appropriators\u2014Republican and Democrat alike\u2014included a total of $25 million in gun control research funding split between NIH and CDC evenly.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn8\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[viii]<\/a><strong><u>Biden\u2019s 2025 budget proposal calls for an additional $60 million for gun control research, so unless conservatives fight now there is no end in sight.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn9\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[ix]<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Congress cannot forget that Joe Biden\u2019s \u201cCDC removed stats on defensive gun use under intense pressure from gun control lobbyists\u201d CDC\u2019s website had a page with statistics from CDC-commissioned studies showing that defensive gun use occur between 60,000 and 2.5 million times per year.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn10\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[x]<\/a>&nbsp;But emails obtained&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/emails-cdc-removed-defensive-gun-use-stats-after-gun-control-advocates-pressured-officials-in-private-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">and published by The Reload<\/a>&nbsp;show that references to that study were deleted from the site following private meetings with gun control advocates in 2021.<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_edn11\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[xi]<\/a>&nbsp;Here\u2019s a quote from one of those anti-rights activists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c[T]hat 2.5 Million number needs to be killed, buried, dug up, killed again and buried again,\u201d Mark Bryant, executive director of the Gun Violence Archive, wrote to the CDC in one of the emails. \u201cIt is highly misleading, is used out of context and I honestly believe it has zero value \u2014 even as an outlier point in honest DGU discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a Freedom of information act request, this was the result of Senator Dick Durbin connecting gun control activists with White House staffers who pressured CDC bureaucrats into taking down the self-defense statistics. CDC and NIH are absolutely out of control attacking our constitutional rights. We cannot just wait idly for the anti-gunners to release their gun control studies\u2014anti-gun media are going to run with these biased unscientific studies and the politicians are going to misuse them to promote and advocate for gun control.&nbsp;<strong><u>GOA urges Congress to cut CDC and NIH gun control research funds completely out of any upcoming funding bill.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E7D2D0AB-1D65-4DC9-9035-BBE52E895878#_ednref1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"how-cdc-nih-funding-could-be-targeting-your-gun-rights\" title=\"How CDC & NIH Funding Could be Targeting Your Gun Rights!\">[i]<\/a>&nbsp;Kellermann, A.L., Rivara, F.P., Rushforth, N.B., Banton, J.
