Hochul deployed the National Guard in a &#8220;supportive role&#8221; to assist the NYPD and transit police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The subway system is the lifeblood of New York City,&#8221; Hochul stated, highlighting the urgency of addressing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/168-24\/transcript-mayor-adams-appears-live-ny1-s-mornings-1-#:~:text=So%2C%20January%20was%20a%20very,pickpockets%20and%20property%20theft%20crime.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hochul-defends-decision-to-ban-national-guards-long-guns-in-nyc-subway-security\" title=\"Hochul Defends Decision to Ban National Guard's Long Guns in NYC Subway Security\">45% spike in subway crimes<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She emphasized the need for a quick response and the deployment of resources at her disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Hochul&#8217;s strategy, while aimed at making the public &#8220;feel&#8221; secure, stops short of a more effective solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bolder and more direct approach would be to empower law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to bear arms for self-defense outside their homes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy could transform the public into a formidable deterrent against crime, ensuring that one-time offenders are decisively stopped from becoming repeat offenders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This approach not only enhances public safety but also instills a sense of responsibility and vigilance among the citizens.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there wouldn&#8217;t be a need for the National Guard in the first place.
