Miami police released bodycam footage last December from the controversial shooting of a man holding a woman hostage with a machete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to WPLG<\/em><\/a>, in March 2023, police received a 911 call of a man walking around a neighborhood with a large knife.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Miami Beach Police Chief Harvette Smith described how the officers found the man, later identified as Edridge Alexis. The officers requested that Alexis put down the machete and he refused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video footage of this standoff was posted by WPLG<\/em> <\/a>in March and shows Alexis holding the machete to his own neck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy officers then tased that subject, the subject fled into the building, the office building behind me,\u201d Smith said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
