Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Steven Dettelbach pledged<\/a><\/strong> to Congress during his nomination hearing that he\u2019d \u201cuse the tools Congress gives me,\u201d and committed to \u201cbeing a fair regulator\u201d of the firearm industry in his role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was welcomed after President Joe Biden\u2019s first nominee, gun control lobbyist David Chipman, was withdrawn<\/a><\/strong> after a disastrous nomination<\/strong><\/a> hearing of his own. However, recent comments by Director Dettelbach delivered at Harvard University, where he was a keynote guest, are worrisome. The top-ranking man transitioned from being a law and regulations enforcer to gun control advocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Dettelbach\u00a0told an audience<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at Harvard\u2019s \u201cGun Violence in America,\u201d discussion that he agreed with gun control advocates on pursuing a ban on Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) and universal background checks. That\u2019s a break from previous Congressional testimony where he testified that he would apply the law, not advocate for new ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
