(<em>Photo: Rasmussen Poll<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"yoast-reading-time__wrapper\"><span class=\"yoast-reading-time__icon\"><svg aria-hidden=\"true\" focusable=\"false\" data-icon=\"clock\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"currentColor\" style=\"display:inline-block;vertical-align:-0.1em\" role=\"img\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewbox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path stroke-linecap=\"round\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\" stroke-width=\"2\" d=\"M12 8v4l3 3m6-3a9 9 0 11-18 0 9 9 0 0118 0z\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span><span class=\"yoast-reading-time__spacer\" style=\"display:inline-block;width:1em\"><\/span><span class=\"yoast-reading-time__descriptive-text\">Estimated reading time:  <\/span><span class=\"yoast-reading-time__reading-time\">3<\/span><span class=\"yoast-reading-time__time-unit\"> minutes<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the wake of the recent mass shooting in Maine, a new Rasmussen Reports national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/biden_administration\/mass_shootings_voters_want_more_enforcement_not_new_laws\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rasmussen-poll-majority-of-voters-advocate-for-stronger-enforcement-over-new-laws\" title=\"Rasmussen Poll: Majority of Voters Advocate for Stronger Enforcement Over New Laws\">survey<\/a> reveals a slight increase in support for gun control. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the majority of voters believe in stricter enforcement of current laws rather than the introduction of new ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey indicates that 44% of likely U.S. voters think that tighter gun control laws would help prevent incidents similar to the Maine shooting, an increase from 40% who expressed this belief after the May 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/good-guy-with-gun-attempted-to-stop-mass-killer-in-buffalo\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rasmussen-poll-majority-of-voters-advocate-for-stronger-enforcement-over-new-laws\" title=\"Rasmussen Poll: Majority of Voters Advocate for Stronger Enforcement Over New Laws\">mass shooting in Buffalo<\/a>, New York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this rise, a notable 49% of respondents do not believe that stricter laws would have a deterrent effect on such tragedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rasmussen survey, commissioned after the Maine incident, echoes sentiments long held by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA): A greater emphasis on enforcing existing gun laws is more effective in preventing gun-related violence than creating new laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey found that 57% of voters favor stricter enforcement of current gun control laws, while only 30% believe that new laws would be more effective .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political affiliations play a role in these beliefs, with 71% of Republicans and 58% of Independents supporting the enforcement of existing laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-rasmussen-reports-most-say-no-to-federal-control-of-guns\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/rasmussen-reports-most-say-no-to-federal-control-of-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rasmussen-poll-majority-of-voters-advocate-for-stronger-enforcement-over-new-laws\" title=\"Rasmussen Poll: Majority of Voters Advocate for Stronger Enforcement Over New Laws\">Rasmussen Reports: Most Say No to Federal Control of Guns<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, only 43% of Democrats hold this view, underscoring the significant ideological divide on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb points out, &#8220;We\u2019ve maintained for decades that if existing gun laws were enforced, we wouldn\u2019t need a constant stream of new laws, with additional restrictions on law-abiding citizens, which have really not prevented such events, as gun control proponents invariably promise when they push their latest schemes.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting the broader political divide, the Rasmussen survey also reveals that 44% of Democrats believe it is possible to entirely prevent mass shootings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this sentiment is shared by only 21% of Republicans and 19% of Independents. Conversely, 66% of GOP voters and 63% of Independents believe complete prevention is unattainable, a view shared by 41% of Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCRKBA, known as the &#8220;common sense gun lobby,&#8221; takes this recent survey as affirmation of its long-held positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPassing a new, feel-good law only creates the illusion something has been done,\u201d Gottlieb said. \u201cIn reality, such knee-jerk legislation accomplishes nothing and sets the public up for more horror when another incident occurs, after which anti-gun politicians repeat the process, fooling their constituents all over again while steadily eroding the Second Amendment and perpetuating a problem they know their policies can\u2019t solve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
