He was found guilty of discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/jury-acquits-delivery-driver-main-charge-shooting-youtuber-rcna118007\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\"><em>NBC News<\/em><\/a>, Colie\u2019s defense attorney argued in court that \u201cthe conviction on the firearms charge is inconsistent with the law, given Colie\u2019s acquittal on self-defense grounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanner Cook, the 21-year-old man shot while playing the \u201cprank\u201d was doing it for his YouTube channel.\u00a0 According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/youtube-prankster-shot-virginia-classified-goons-923c90fe3e1a7282c547901fa767bc00\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\">AP News<\/a>,<\/em> \u201cClassified Goons\u201d had roughly 39,000 subscribers before Cook posted the video titled, \u201cI Got Shot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loudoun.gov\/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=8276&amp;fbclid=IwAR0WhRcAGEO3IQEQnxcsz4g9KHsAbyrkY6-mnJ-JZwhjeR2zC-JRo0SjNHA\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\">police report<\/a> of the incident, posted in April, said, \u201cLCSO received the first call reporting that a shooting had occurred at the Dulles Town Center mall at approximately 11:57 AM.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police responded to the scene and learned the details of what had been caught on video.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-prank-gone-terribly-wrong\">Prank Gone Terribly Wrong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jury acquits delivery driver of main charge in Dulles Town Center shooting of YouTube prankster\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0OYQ1Uf5oAU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the video, Cook approached Colie in the mall food court, holding a cell phone inches from the Doordash driver\u2019s face. A vulgar message was playing from the speakers on a Google Translate App.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colie said \u201cstop\u201d several times and the video shows him attempting to back away, with Cook following him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/youtube-prankster-shot-virginia-classified-goons-923c90fe3e1a7282c547901fa767bc00\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\">AP News<\/a> <\/em>summed it up saying, &#8220;Colie tries to knock the phone away from his face before pulling out a gun and shooting Cook in the lower left chest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/youtuber-shot-killed-fake-robbery\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTuber Shot, Killed After Going After Armed Tennessee Man in Fake Robbery<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cook was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cook was later asked why he did not leave Colie alone, and he admitted that he had considered stopping the prank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pointed out that it was not because his victim appeared to be angry, but because it wasn\u2019t the &#8220;type of reaction Cook was looking for.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ask-the-jury-was-it-self-defense\">Ask the Jury &#8211; Was It Self-Defense?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In court, Prosecutor Eden Holmes claimed that the \u201csilly prank\u201d did not warrant a need for self-defense. Arguing that the situation was \u201cbizarre but not threatening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She asked, \u201cHow could the defendant have found that he was reasonably in fear of imminent bodily harm?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, one of Colie\u2019s attorneys, Tabitha Blake, pointed out that Colie didn\u2019t know it was a prank, and Cook\u2019s 6\u20195\u201d stature and straight face would have been quite menacing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, after seeing the evidence and hearing the testimonies, the jury eventually agreed with this logic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTuber Tanner Cook reacts to not guilty verdict for man who shot him\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WpBqKTLZN3E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WUSA9<\/em> spoke to Cook and his mother after the trial asking for their thoughts on the ruling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day,\u201d his mother said, \u201cwe respect what the jury says, and my family and I are just grateful and thankful that I have my son here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0OYQ1Uf5oAU?si=AVOf2WzuM4EpGTOn\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\"><em>Fox 5<\/em><\/a>, Jeramy Cook, Tanner Cook\u2019s father, expressed disagreement with the ruling of self-defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhere\u2019s the line,\u201d he asked, \u201cwhere it became a life-threatening situation, where he had to use deadly force?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moving-forward\">Moving Forward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about his content, Cook confirmed that he does intend to keep pranking people and posting it to his Youtube channel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adam Pouilliard, Colie\u2019s other defense attorney, said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/jury-acquits-delivery-driver-main-charge-shooting-youtuber-rcna118007\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\"><em>NBC News<\/em><\/a> that Cook \u201cis trying to confuse people to post videos. He\u2019s not worried that he\u2019s scaring people. He keeps doing this.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an earlier article from <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/youtuber-shot-tanner-cook-mall-a215712ddbf06b96be62b0e3a6be2047\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"jury-delivers-verdict-for-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-correct-decision\" title=\"Jury Delivers Verdict for Man Who Shot YouTube Prankster -- Correct Decision?\"><em>AP News<\/em><\/a>, the sheriff who found Cook on the scene said he \u201crecognized Cook immediately.\u201d According to police, Cook is infamous in the area for his \u201crepellent pranks.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only that, but many people in the community have dealt with Cook as well. In the jury selection process, more than one potential juror claimed to have been a previous victim of Cook\u2019s \u201cpranks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as the ruling goes, Cook\u2019s mother was right. The jury made their decision and the law stands. But it is still a very multi-faceted issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who was ultimately in the right? Did Cook\u2019s actions warrant him being shot?
