Lousy Lee\u2019s strong effort to enact such radical Second Amendment infringements to the Volunteer State has utterly failed,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;GOA will be ready for the next session in January, not only to beat back calls for more gun control, but also to advocate for ending gun-free school zones and passing true Constitutional Carry,&#8221; he continued.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erich Pratt, GOA\u2019s Senior Vice President, chimed in, &#8220;This was a great victory for the Second Amendment, and it was even more encouraging because our grassroots activism was able to bluntly stop this emotionally charged legislation before it ever became law.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pratt added, &#8220;These are the best victories!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-red-flag-laws\">What Are Red Flag Laws? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Red flag laws allow governments to seize firearms from individuals accused &#8212; not convicted &#8212; of being a danger to themselves or others.  They exclusively target firearm confiscation.  They do not address other potential weapons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red-flagged individuals, whether homicidal or suicidal, can still access various means: knives, cars, ropes, or toxic chemicals, for instance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, in 2021, knives and cutting instruments resulted in more deaths than rifles, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/195325\/murder-victims-in-the-us-by-weapon-used\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tennessee-assembly-rejects-red-flag-confiscation-bill\" title=\"Tennessee Assembly Rejects Red-Flag Confiscation Bill\">Statista Research Dept<\/a>. In essence, red flag laws are not a foolproof barrier against those with violent intentions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-sues-maryland-over-controversial-red-flag-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tennessee-assembly-rejects-red-flag-confiscation-bill\" title=\"Tennessee Assembly Rejects Red-Flag Confiscation Bill\">SAF Sues Maryland Over Controversial \u2018Red Flag\u2019 Law<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Critics also question the constitutionality of these laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They argue against the absence of proper due process, the reliance on judges to make speculative decisions about a person&#8217;s potential for violence, and the failure of authorities to commit or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox13memphis.com\/news\/memphis-mayor-jim-strickland-releases-scathing-letter-on-revolving-door-justice-system\/article_e9eedf44-bf8b-11ed-9b0f-4f6e6652f6a0.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tennessee-assembly-rejects-red-flag-confiscation-bill\" title=\"Tennessee Assembly Rejects Red-Flag Confiscation Bill\">incarcerate<\/a> individuals who are truly dangerous.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/doj-announces-200-million-spend-on-red-flag-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tennessee-assembly-rejects-red-flag-confiscation-bill\" title=\"Tennessee Assembly Rejects Red-Flag Confiscation Bill\">authorized federal funding<\/a> to aid states in adopting these laws, ostensibly with due process standards for grant eligibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, the NRA-ILA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20230522\/new-york-state-police-advocate-governors-gun-seizure-mandate-is-hindering-crime-fighting#:~:text=%E2%80%9CRed%20flag%E2%80%9D%20laws%20are%20a,for%20firearm%2Drelated%20background%20checks.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tennessee-assembly-rejects-red-flag-confiscation-bill\" title=\"Tennessee Assembly Rejects Red-Flag Confiscation Bill\">claims<\/a> enforcement of these standards is lax. New York\u2019s red flag law serves as a case in point.
