Let’s talk about homicide rates in red cities vs. blue cities of similar size. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largest big cities are almost entirely Dem-controlled. Of all cities with over 500,000 people, 36 in total, only 4 have Republican mayors. But once you get into cities just under the half-a-million mark, you get a decent mix of party control. From there, you can make comparisons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this exercise, the cities I’ve included are those with a population of 400,000 to 500,000, and using the Mayor as a loose proxy to label the city as “Red” or “Blue” (I acknowledge that’s imperfect, but this is Twitter, not a peer-reviewed paper). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that while Colorado Springs had an Independent sworn in two months ago, the city had a line of Republican mayors for decades before that, so I am counting that city as red for this exercise. The homicide rates for each city in 2022 are as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
