so far in 2023.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.everytown.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"anti-gun-lobby-takes-victory-lap-touts-2023-wins\" title=\"Anti-Gun Lobby Takes Victory Lap, Touts 2023 'Wins'\">Everytown for Gun Safety<\/a> put out a press release Wednesday saying they&#8217;re celebrating an &#8220;historic year for gun safety.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization, which is primarily funded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, claims state legislatures have passed more than 80 &#8220;gun safety policies&#8221; and blocked 95% of the gun lobby&#8217;s agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also says it &#8220;allocated more than $530 million to gun violence prevention.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cState governments have long been laboratories for change when it comes to gun safety, and that is especially true in 2023,\u201d said&nbsp;John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cState by state, and law by law, we are proving that standing up for gun safety is both good politics and good policy,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-as-per-the-anti-gun-lobby-s-data-states-have-established\">As per the Anti-Gun Lobby&#8217;s data, states have established:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Block Illegal Gun Access<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Universal background checks: Michigan, Minnesota.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waiting periods for firearm purchase: Colorado, Vermont, Washington.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ban on straw purchasing: New Mexico, Vermont.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accountability for the Gun Industry<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ban or strengthen laws against assault weapons: Connecticut, Washington.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate lawsuits against gun industry offenders: Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Washington.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Office of Gun Violence Prevention (via governor): North Carolina.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ban ghost guns: Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Promote Responsible Gun Ownership<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enhance secure firearm storage: Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Vermont.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bolster permit systems: Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage secure storage education: Louisiana, Maryland, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mandate gun buyer training: Connecticut, Hawaii, Washington.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep Guns Away from High-Risk Individuals<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enact an Extreme Risk Law: Michigan, Minnesota.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expand current Extreme Risk Law: Colorado, Vermont.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prohibit domestic abusers from owning guns: Vermont.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase gun purchase age: Colorado, Connecticut.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide funding for community interventions against violence: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington (totaling over $530M).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>States led by the GOP, which haven&#8217;t greenlit any NRA-prioritized bill, include Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, and twelve others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-national-shootings-sports-foundation-nssf-responds\">National Shootings Sports Foundation (NSSF) Responds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Shootings Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearms industry trade association, slammed this announcement from the anti-gun lobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Everytown\u2019s celebration of unconstitutional gun control laws is premature given all the pending court challenges to their unconstitutional laws,&#8221; said Mark Oliva, NSSF&#8217;s managing director of public affairs, in an email to GunsAmerica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But I guess that\u2019s what you do when you spend Michael Bloomberg\u2019s money on gun control pet projects that are destined to die in courts,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oliva went on to say, &#8220;I\u2019m still looking for one law that Everytown championed that will make communities safer by holding criminals accountable. Instead, they want to weaponize legislatures against law-abiding citizens, deprive people of their rights and clog the courts with frivolous lawsuits that are prohibited by federal law.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oliva further touted the firearm industry&#8217;s efforts, such as partnering with law enforcement in Project ChildSafe\u00ae, providing over 40 million firearm safety kits with locks, and their continuous investment in safer community initiatives.
