(<em>Photo: Smith-Wesson<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a bold move challenging Hawaii&#8217;s restrictive gun law, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has filed a supportive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Wolford-SAF-AMICUS-brief-for-tro.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-takes-stand-against-hawaiis-restrictive-gun-law\" title=\"SAF Takes Stand Against Hawaii's Restrictive Gun Law\">amicus<\/a> brief for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is part of a case known as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/67525716\/1\/wolford-v-lopez\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-takes-stand-against-hawaiis-restrictive-gun-law\" title=\"SAF Takes Stand Against Hawaii's Restrictive Gun Law\">Wolford v. Lopez<\/a><\/em>, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the brief, Hawaii&#8217;s recent actions echo those of New York, New Jersey, and Maryland, which undermined the Supreme Court\u2019s pivotal <em>Bruen<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/20-843_7j80.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-takes-stand-against-hawaiis-restrictive-gun-law\" title=\"SAF Takes Stand Against Hawaii's Restrictive Gun Law\">ruling<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ruling upholds the right to carry self-defense mechanisms, aka arms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Hawaii&#8217;s SB 1230 law, passed after the <em>Bruen<\/em> ruling, severely restricts these rights, specifically targeting law-abiding citizens who take these rights seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dubbed the \u201c<em>Bruen<\/em> response bill,\u201d SB 1230 significantly limits where licensed citizens can carry firearms for personal protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation has been criticized for its restrictive nature and has sparked fear amongst citizens wishing to exercise their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb strongly criticized Hawaii\u2019s new law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHawaii\u2019s new law is written to make citizens afraid to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms, to the point they\u2019re even afraid to enter a coffee shop without first being invited,&#8221; explained Gottlieb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-springfield-s-new-model-2020-redline-a-21st-century-scout-rifle\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/springfields-new-model-2020-redline-a-21st-century-scout-rifle\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-takes-stand-against-hawaiis-restrictive-gun-law\" title=\"SAF Takes Stand Against Hawaii's Restrictive Gun Law\">Springfield\u2019s New Model 2020 Redline: A 21st Century Scout Rifle<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We cannot have law-abiding citizens afraid to exercise a right for fear of being prosecuted and made into criminals,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;That is not how the constitution works, and specifically, it is why the Second Amendment includes the phrase \u2018shall not be infringed.\u2019 SB 1230 constitutes a serious infringement.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are no historical analogs supporting the extreme nature of Hawaii\u2019s gun law,\u201d added SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo the contrary, as we explain to the court, history shows lawmakers respected Second Amendment rights as part of everyday life, to the point of encouraging people to bring their guns to public meetings and even church.
