{"id":190706,"date":"2023-05-25T12:22:34","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T16:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=179989"},"modified":"2023-05-25T12:22:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T14:53:34","slug":"ccrkba-poll-shows-alarming-democrat-disregard-for-2a-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ccrkba-poll-shows-alarming-democrat-disregard-for-2a-right\/","title":{"rendered":"CCRKBA: Poll Shows Alarming Democrat Disregard for 2A Right"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Poll_Gun_Control-818x1024.png\" alt=\"NPR\/PBS NewsHour\/Marist National Poll.\" class=\"wp-image-179991\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BELLEVUE, WA \u2013 <\/strong>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/polls\/gun-violence-in-the-united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ccrkba-poll-shows-alarming-democrat-disregard-for-2a-right\" title=\"CCRKBA: Poll Shows Alarming Democrat Disregard for 2A Right\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll<\/a> released Wednesday shows an \u201calarming disregard by Democrats for the Second Amendment,\u201d the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll, conducted May 15-18, revealed that \u201c88 percent of Democrats think reining in gun violence is more important than protecting gun rights, while 67 percent of Republicans say protecting gun rights is more important,\u201d according to a report in The Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a stunning revelation,\u201d said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. \u201cWhile we have always advocated for safer communities and have supported citizen initiatives aimed at locking up criminals, it is appalling that such an overwhelming percentage of Democrats are so willing to throw the Second Amendment under a bus to achieve some false sense of security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 25 years ago, Gottlieb championed both \u201cThree Strikes\u201d and \u201cHard Time for Armed Crime\u201d initiatives, which received massive public support in Washington State and then became popular nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe idea of putting violent, repeat offenders in prison has always made more sense than penalizing law-abiding citizens who only want to exercise their constitutional rights,\u201d he observed. \u201cThe notion that you are somehow going to discourage criminals by disarming their intended victims isn\u2019t just foolish, it\u2019s downright crazy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ruger-unveils-new-lc-charger-in-5-7x28mm\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ccrkba-poll-shows-alarming-democrat-disregard-for-2a-right\" title=\"CCRKBA: Poll Shows Alarming Democrat Disregard for 2A Right\">Ruger Unveils New LC Charger in 5.7x28mm<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConstitutional rights are not something you vote on,\u201d Gottlieb continued, \u201cnor do you casually give them up in hopes of creating some Utopian fantasy. If criminals know people do not have the means to fight back, they will exploit the situation. That\u2019s why we fight so hard, day after day, to protect the right that makes it possible for us to protect our families, homes and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb said he is equally disappointed that many Independents and even some Republican poll respondents were also willing to prioritize controlling crime over protecting individual rights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in our Bill of Rights and most state constitutions for a reason,\u201d Gottlieb noted. \u201cIf we don\u2019t protect all of our rights vigorously, pretty soon we will end up with none of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-about-ccrkba\">About CCRKBA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation&#8217;s premier gun rights organizations.
