I, unlike you, am not a firearms expert to the same extent as you maybe, but we have people at ATF who can talk about velocity of firearms, what damage different kinds of firearms cause\u2026 so whatever determination you make would be an informed one,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dettelbach\u2019s admission of his own ignorance is nothing new.  He unsuccessfully ran for the Attorney General of Ohio in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wosu.org\/news\/2018-03-02\/attorney-general-candidates-take-different-paths-on-guns-and-school-safety\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"atf-director-dettelbach-cant-define-assault-weapon-wants-to-ban-them-anyway\" title=\"ATF Director Dettelbach Can't Define 'Assault Weapon,' Wants to Ban Them Anyway\">discussing gun control<\/a> during campaign events without defining the term even then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reactions to Dettelbach&#8217;s statements were, understandably, met with incredulity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney Kostas Moras <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MorosKostas\/status\/1648368830761283584?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"atf-director-dettelbach-cant-define-assault-weapon-wants-to-ban-them-anyway\" title=\"ATF Director Dettelbach Can't Define 'Assault Weapon,' Wants to Ban Them Anyway\">wrote on Twitter<\/a>, \u201cHe admits he isn&#8217;t a firearms expert, and I appreciate that honesty. But then, why is he head of the ATF?
