Katie Hobbs this week vetoed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/56leg\/1R\/bills\/HB2332P.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"arizona-governor-vetoes-school-safety-bills-draws-criticism-from-goa\" title=\"Arizona Governor Vetoes School Safety Bills, Draws Criticism from GOA\">House Bill 2332 (HB2332)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/AZ\/bill\/SB1331\/2023\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"arizona-governor-vetoes-school-safety-bills-draws-criticism-from-goa\" title=\"Arizona Governor Vetoes School Safety Bills, Draws Criticism from GOA\">Senate Bill 1331 (SB1331)<\/a>, which sought to introduce mandatory firearm safety training in schools and allow parents to carry concealed weapons on school campuses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision has drawn strong criticism from at least one pro-gun organization: Gun Owners of America (GOA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/44a5186aac69c13c570fca36a\/files\/8b6cc3b6-9bfa-2f92-8255-1ad21063d57a\/Veto_Letter_HB2332_and_SB1331.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"arizona-governor-vetoes-school-safety-bills-draws-criticism-from-goa\" title=\"Arizona Governor Vetoes School Safety Bills, Draws Criticism from GOA\">letter<\/a> addressed to Senate President Warren Petersen (R) and House Speaker Ben Toma (R), Gov. Hobbs stated that ensuring the safety of students is a collective responsibility, and the proposed measures would not be effective in addressing gun violence prevention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The governor argued that the measures would have a negative impact on students, teachers, and parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mandatory firearm safety training in schools is not the solution to gun violence prevention. This requirement could lead to immediate and long-term impacts on the health and well-being of<br \/>students, teachers, and parents,&#8221; wrote Gov. Hobbs in the letter dated April 17, 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-michigan-gun-control-package-signed-into-law\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/michigan-gun-control-package-signed-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"arizona-governor-vetoes-school-safety-bills-draws-criticism-from-goa\" title=\"Arizona Governor Vetoes School Safety Bills, Draws Criticism from GOA\">Michigan Gun Control Package Signed Into Law<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Nor is it prudent to allow parents to carry concealed weapons on school campuses,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;Allowing more guns on campus will not make a campus safer. Hobbs claimed that she is committed to finding alternative solutions to gun violence prevention in Arizona schools, such as trauma-informed emergency planning and safe, secure gun storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the issue continues to unfold in Arizona, it remains to be seen whether the state legislature will propose alternative measures in response to the governor&#8217;s veto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned for updates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update via the NRA-ILA<\/strong>: Gov.
