This will gradually work to eliminate the list of locations where concealed carry permit holders are not allowed to carry their guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrats criticized the legislation, saying it would broaden Missouri\u2019s already loose gun laws as the state sees high rates of gun violence in the state\u2019s urban areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill is sponsored by Rep. Adam Schnelting, a St. Charles Republican, and would allow people with concealed carry permits to have guns on public transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe all have the potential of running into situations where we have to utilize self defense to protect ourselves and those we love,\u201d Schnelting siad. \u201cThis legislation will discourage criminal activity on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masstransitmag.com\/safety-security\/news\/53057318\/mo-missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" title=\"Missouri House Advances Bill Allowing Guns on Buses, Inside Churches and Synagogues\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.masstransitmag.com\/safety-security\/news\/53057318\/mo-missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues?utm_source=GunsAmerica\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" title=\"Missouri House Advances Bill Allowing Guns on Buses, Inside Churches and Synagogues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public transportation systems<\/a>, but most importantly, it will ensure that we maintain our constitutional right to self defense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-firearms-in-churches-and-places-of-worship\">Firearms in Churches and Places of Worship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill also includes an amendment proposed by Republican Rep. Ben Baker that would also allow people with permits to carry guns in churches and other places of worship. Churches could still prohibit guns by placing signage that states firearms are not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doug Alpert is a rabbi in Kansas City and said there is no reason to have guns in places of worship, and that the bill would only increase the likelihood of shootings in places like synagogues, which already face threats and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve all had to raise our security profile and it\u2019s something that I would rather not do for my synagogue, but I have to do it,\u201d Alpert said. \u201cAnd this would only make it worse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-concealed-carry-permit-holders\">Concealed Carry Permit Holders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>William Bland, a member of the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance, told <a href=\"https:\/\/account.kansascity.com\/paywall\/stop?resume=274413340&amp;utm_source=GunsAmerica\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" title=\"Missouri House Advances Bill Allowing Guns on Buses, Inside Churches and Synagogues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Kansas City Star<\/a> Monday that concealed carry permit holders are among the most law abiding citizens, and the inability to carry a gun on a bus makes people more vulnerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have gone through so much in order to obtain that permit,\u201d Bland said. \u201cWe\u2019re very careful about it. We\u2019ve been trained, so I don\u2019t see the opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crimes on public transportation are certainly not a recent development. In January, a four-time felon attempted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/four-time-felon-attempts-to-rob-concealed-carrier-on-chicago-train\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" title=\"Missouri House Advances Bill Allowing Guns on Buses, Inside Churches and Synagogues\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/four-time-felon-attempts-to-rob-concealed-carrier-on-chicago-train\/?utm_source=GunsAmerica\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-house-advances-bill-allowing-guns-on-buses-inside-churches-and-synagogues\" title=\"Missouri House Advances Bill Allowing Guns on Buses, Inside Churches and Synagogues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rob a concealed carry holder<\/a> on a Chicago train. Of all the possible takeaways from this story, perhaps the most important is the need for training, as William Bland noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 150 people submitted testimony in favor of the bill when it was in the House Emerging Issues Committee earlier this month. Most supporters cited the need to protect themselves from potential criminals on buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kimberly Cella is the executive director of the Missouri Public Transit Association.
