seller face hefty prison sentences following their convictions for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/atf-arrests-florida-man-selling-metal-drawing-full-auto-lightning-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">illegal firearms activity.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-unregistered-conversions-lead-to-conviction\"><strong>Unregistered Conversions Lead to Conviction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kristopher Justinboyer Ervin, 43, of Orange Park, Florida, has been sentenced to five years and eight months, while Matthew Raymond Hoover, 39, of Wisconsin, received a five-year sentence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their crimes? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conspiring to transfer &#8212; and transferring &#8212; unregistered machinegun conversion devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bank-alert-triggered-investigation\"><strong>Bank Alert Triggered Investigation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The case began in January 2021 when Ervin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/watch-fbi-director-wray-admits-govt-been-seizing-personal-data-from-banks-related-to-gun-purchases\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">bank alerted<\/a> the ATF about possible illegal activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation unveiled Ervin&#8217;s online business, selling alleged machinegun conversion devices dubbed, &#8220;Auto Key Cards.&#8221; They were marketed as \u201cpen holders\u201d and \u201cnovelties,&#8221; according to the Feds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/watch-fbi-director-wray-admits-govt-been-seizing-personal-data-from-banks-related-to-gun-purchases\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">FBI Director Wray Admits Gov\u2019t Been Seizing Personal Data from Banks Related to Gun Purchases<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-important-product-disclaimer\">Important Product Disclaimer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The product description on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/atf-arrests-florida-man-selling-metal-drawing-full-auto-lightning-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">website<\/a> accessed by GunsAmerica in 2021 directed users, \u201cDo not cut or alter artwork in any way\u201d and described the item as a \u201cBusiness Logo Card, Great Conversation Piece, Artwork and Novelty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Terms of Service posted on autokeycards.com, the company told its customers, \u201cYou may not use our products for any illegal or unauthorized purpose nor may you, in the use of the Service, violate any laws in your jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of this was enough to protect Ervin or Hoover from prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-covert-operations\"><strong>Covert Operations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ATF and USPIS agents watched Ervin drop off packages containing these devices at an Orange Park post office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lightning link, extracted from these cards, can be used to turn a legal AR-15 firearm into an automatic weapon, according to the ATF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-youtube-s-role-in-the-scheme\"><strong>YouTube\u2019s Role in The &#8216;Scheme<\/strong>&#8216;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-1024x427.jpg\" alt=\"An auto key card. \" class=\"wp-image-143036\" width=\"815\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-1024x427.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-400x167.jpg 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-150x63.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-768x320.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard-1536x641.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/autokeycard.jpg 1838w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 815px) 100vw, 815px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ervin sold metal, credit-card-sized cards that had been laser engraved with the outline of a lightning link. Some of the cards also doubled as bottle openers, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210204132311\/https:\/\/www.autokeycards.com\/shop-online\/p\/4e0h9v7z98gj2zhg8mz9mxdhz8b1qo\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this page<\/a>&nbsp;accessed by GunsAmerica. The AutoKeyCard 3in1 with Bottle Opener sold for $109.<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators claim that Hoover\u2019s YouTube channel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@CRSFirearms\/videos\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">CRS Firearms<\/a>, boosted the device&#8217;s sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By advertising the Auto Key Cards, the Feds say it led many to Ervin\u2019s doorstep, contributing to over 2,000 sales in mere months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The partnership was profitable; Hoover received cash and luxury items as compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-feds-raid-uncovers-auto-key-card-operation\"><strong>Feds Raid Uncovers Auto Key Card Operation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A March raid at Ervin\u2019s residence revealed etchings for over 1,500 lightning links. In total, the duo&#8217;s operation involved around 6,600 individual lightning links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sirlkckRyIc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">defenders<\/a> of Ervin and Hoover contend that the links were not drawn to scale.  Therefore, they could not actually be used to convert a semi-auto firearm to a full auto firearm.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, they argue that the ATF failed to prove in court that the lightning links on the cards were a viable conversion means.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defenders also suggest that the entire product was a joke designed to tweak the nose of the ATF.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-coordinated-effort-ends-the-operation\"><strong>Coordinated Effort Ends the Operation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ATF\u2019s Jacksonville Field Office, in collaboration with various agencies, led this probe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirk Howard, the Special Agent in Charge, stressed the importance of their collective work, ensuring that such &#8220;schemes&#8221; do not undermine federal firearms laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-comment-from-special-agent-in-charge\">Comment from Special Agent in Charge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigating this case required dedication and tenacity on behalf of ATF\u2019s Jacksonville Field Office and our partner agencies on this matter\u2014the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office,\u201d said Howard in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mdfl\/pr\/youtuber-and-auto-key-card-manufacturer-sentenced-five-years-prison-transferring\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">press release<\/a> obtained by GunsAmerica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur work was necessary to prove the true nature of the Auto Key Cards being sold by Ervin and Hoover and disrupt their audacious scheme to circumvent federal firearms laws,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/three-funeral-goers-arrested-for-possession-of-auto-sears\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"feds-throw-book-at-youtuber-auto-key-card-seller-for-illegal-machinegun-conversions\" title=\"Feds Throw Book At YouTuber & 'Auto Key Card' Seller for Illegal Machinegun Conversions\">Three Funeral-Goers Arrested for Possession of Auto Sears<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-project-safe-neighborhoods\">&#8216;<strong>Project Safe Neighborhoods&#8217; <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This case is part of what the Feds call &#8220;Project Safe Neighborhoods&#8221; (PSN) \u2013 a unified initiative that brings communities and law enforcement together against violent crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those in possession of an Auto Key Card, the ATF urges immediate surrender of the device for destruction.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not clear at this point if those who surrender their cards or those who admit to possessing one will face prosecution as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-your-thoughts\">Your Thoughts? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are your thoughts?
