It's a joke'\">April 9, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is widely recognized as one of the most outspoken and woke figures in the NBA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In a recent interview with reporters, Popovich shifted the focus away from his possible retirement and instead pleaded for more gun control in the US, citing the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/nashville-heroes-talk-about-confronting-terminating-school-shooter\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nba-coach-gregg-popovich-on-2a-its-a-myth-its-a-joke\" title=\"NBA Coach Gregg Popovich on 2A: 'It's a myth.  It's a joke'\">mass killing<\/a> in Nashville, TN, as evidence of the need for change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">During the back and forth with the media on Sunday, the 74-year-old lashed out at Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u201cI mean, I couldn\u2019t believe it, so I wrote this thing down,&#8221; Popovich said. &#8220;But Senator Marsha Blackburn, her comment after was, after the massacre, \u2018My office is in contact with federal, state and local officials and we stand ready to assist.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u201cIn what?! They\u2019re dead! What are you going to assist with? Cleaning up their brains off the wall? Wiping the blood off the schoolroom floor? What are you going to assist with?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u201cAnd then there\u2019s Governor Lee. I\u2019m sorry to go on and on, but Bill Lee, \u2018I\u2019m closely monitoring the tragic situation. Please join us in prayer.\u2019 What are you monitoring? They\u2019re dead! It's a joke'\">Nashville Shooter: One in Long Line of Killers Who Targeted the Defenseless<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The shooter targeted The Covenant School, a private Christian school in the city&#8217;s Green Hills neighborhood.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">While authorities haven&#8217;t established a clear motive just yet, they have indicated the shooter picked that school, in part, because it was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/nashville-shooter-one-in-long-line-of-killers-who-targeted-the-defenseless\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nba-coach-gregg-popovich-on-2a-its-a-myth-its-a-joke\" title=\"NBA Coach Gregg Popovich on 2A: 'It's a myth.  It's a joke'\">soft target<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Coach Popovich rejected the idea that hardening schools with armed security would protect school children.  He also called the 2A a &#8220;joke&#8221; and a &#8220;myth.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u201cBut they\u2019re going to cloak all this stuff [in] the myth of the Second Amendment, the freedom. You know, it&#8217;s just a myth. It\u2019s a joke. It\u2019s just a game they play. I mean, that&#8217;s freedom. Is it freedom for kids to go to school and try to socialize and try to learn and be scared to death that they might die that day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u201cBut Ted Cruz will fix it, \u2018cause he is gonna double the number of cops in the schools,\u201d Popovich said derisively. \u201cThat\u2019s what he wants to do. Well, that\u2019ll create a great environment. Is that freedom? Or is it freedom to have a congressman who can make a postcard with all his family holding rifles, including an AR-15 or whatever. Is that cool? Is that like street cred for a Republican? That\u2019s freedom? That\u2019s more important than protecting kids? It's a joke'\">highlighted<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Coach Popovich may recoil at the thought of hardening schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">But someone should have asked him at the press conference if he feels the same about banks, courthouses, government buildings, airports, hospitals, stadiums, and sports arenas.
