A Deltona homeowner acted fast last week when his dog was attacked and almost killed by a massive alligator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The homeowner recounted the story to FOX 35<\/em><\/a>, explaining that he had let his dog Winston out in the backyard but was going to check on him. He spotted the gator as soon as he rounded the corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a massive seven-foot-eight beast, and the homeowner said that they saw each other at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the alligator sinking his teeth into the dog’s head, the homeowner was forced to act swiftly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I don\u2019t even think there was a thought, I think it was \u2013 my heart just dropped, and I was like, \u2018Okay, I have to go do something.\u2019 So, I mean, you just spring into action and do what you have to do to save your dog. Twenty seconds later, probably would\u2019ve had a dead dog,” he told FOX 35<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without hesitation, the homeowner sprang into action and fired four shots at the gator’s skull. Reports state that it is unclear if he was already armed or what type of firearm he was carrying, but whatever it was, it did the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully, Winston (the dog) survived the ordeal with just a small puncture wound on his ear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The homeowner did say he is feeling a bit on edge these days. He’s not necessarily nervous, but he’s definitely more aware of his surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
