After Republicans in Congress let it expire \u2013 mass shootings tripled.<br \/><br \/>Today, I&#8217;m signing an Executive Order to fight gun violence, but Congress must act. <br \/><br \/>Enough is enough.<\/p>\u2014 President Biden (@POTUS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1635747633359900672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">March 14, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote> \n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden continues to deliver meaningful action to save lives from gun violence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/message\/h5yetl\/5f3red\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">said Shannon Watts<\/a>, founder of Moms Demand Action in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur grassroots army helped pass the first federal gun safety law in a generation and we\u2019re now proud to support this Administration fully implementing the law and using every tool in their disposal to keep our families and communities safe,&#8221; she added.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry trade association, takes exception with President Biden\u2019s executive order stating that in the name of \u201cdoing something,\u201d the Biden administration is chilling fundamental Constitutional rights and simply rehashing existing laws, many of which were previously supported by the firearm industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Biden administration should demand that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/why-george-soros-is-responsible-for-the-largest-spike-in-murder-in-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">soft-on-crime prosecutors<\/a> and lawmakers use the laws already in existence to lock up criminals that misuse firearms to prey on innocent Americans,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-reaction-to-presidents-gun-control-executive-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">said Lawrence G. Keane<\/a>, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/why-george-soros-is-responsible-for-the-largest-spike-in-murder-in-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">Why George Soros Is Responsible for the Largest Spike in Murder in American History&nbsp;<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInstead, this administration continues to scapegoat the firearm industry for its unwillingness to address crime.,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The failure of this administration to seriously address spiraling crime and instead focus its attacks on a Constitutionally-protected industry that works diligently to remain in compliance with laws and regulations and actively cooperates with law enforcement, especially ATF, exposes the lack of urgency Americans demand to curb rampant and out-of-control crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The executive order will also direct Attorney General Merrick Garland to develop and put in place a comprehensive plan to prevent former federally licensed firearms dealers, whose licenses have been revoked or surrendered, from continuing to engage in the business of dealing in firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this sounds familiar, it\u2019s because the firearm industry already worked with Congress to update the statutory definition of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/biden-signs-bipartisan-safer-communities-act-with-help-from-these-15-gop-senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">in the business<\/a>,\u201d in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/biden-signs-bipartisan-safer-communities-act-with-help-from-these-15-gop-senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">Bipartisan Safer Communities Act<\/a>, which was passed last year and signed into law by President Biden. The update defined those Americans \u201cin the business\u201d of selling firearms as those \u201cpredominantly earning a profit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The executive order will also aim to enhance public awareness of extreme protection orders, such as &#8220;red flag&#8221; laws, and safe storage of firearms, and promote their effective use through collaboration with law enforcement, health care providers, educators, and other community leaders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udce2 NRA Statement on Biden\u2019s Executive Order<br \/><br \/>Crimes are committed by criminals. The focus of our laws and efforts should be on the criminal\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nrP3aoagEx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">https:\/\/t.co\/nrP3aoagEx<\/a><\/p>\u2014 NRA (@NRA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NRA\/status\/1635746700017934338?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">March 14, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote> \n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the executive order will instruct the secretary of transportation to collaborate with the Department of Justice to develop strategies to minimize the loss or theft of firearms during shipment, even though the firearm industry has already<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/event\/ups-best-practices-for-firearm-products-and-ammunition-shipments\/?hilite=ups\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\"> been consistently addressing compliance<\/a> with federal regulations to report the loss or theft of firearms during shipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the White House, the executive order will hold the gun industry accountable by giving the public and policyholders \u201cmore information regarding federally licensed firearms dealers who are violating the law.&#8221; It directs the attorney general to make public the records of the ATF\u2019s inspections of firearms dealers that have been cited for violating federal firearm laws.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSSF rejected the Biden administration\u2019s attempt to weaponize the \u201czero tolerance\u201d policy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-reports-spike-in-ffl-revocations\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">revoking federal firearms licenses<\/a> for minor clerical errors by compounding that ill-conceived policy to expand it to a \u201cname-and-shame\u201d effort. Firearm retailers are the front line for ensuring firearms are sold only to those legally able to purchase them and \u201czero-tolerance\u201d risks the cooperative relationship between firearm retailers and the ATF.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/biden-signs-bipartisan-safer-communities-act-with-help-from-these-15-gop-senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">Biden Signs Bipartisan \u2018Safer Communities Act\u2019 with Help from These 15 GOP Senators<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This weaponization of the ATF would codify the Biden administration\u2019s efforts to transform the ATF from a law enforcement and regulatory agency to one that is a political arm of an anti-gun administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EO also enhances background checks for gun buyers under 21, adds penalties for some gun criminals and provides funding for a variety of health and mental health-related programs. It also addresses closing the so-called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/boyfriend-loophole-is-the-target-in-latest-gun-control-push\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"president-biden-signing-executive-order-to-foist-universal-background-checks\" title=\"President Biden Signing Executive Order to Foist Universal Background Checks\">boyfriend loophole<\/a>,&#8221; which is a gap in federal law that means spousal domestic abusers can have gun rights taken away but not unmarried ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The president is going to continue to fight for common sense gun safety legislation, and there are all sorts of pieces of legislation we need,&#8221; said a senior administration official. &#8220;But in the meantime, [the president] wants the federal government to be doing all we can with existing authority to reduce gun violence.
