The board aims to declare gun violence a \u201cpublic health crisis in Los Angeles County,\u201d in response to the tragedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know that blame for the gun violence epidemic lies with the failure of Congressional leaders to pass even the most basic federal gun laws. Because they have not acted \u2014 we have found actions we can take at the county level to protect lives,\u201d said Chair Hahn in the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of half a dozen measures, only two will likely become law. The rest of them will have to be vetted before they can take effect. One measure prohibits .50-caliber handguns in unincorporated Los Angeles. The second measure prohibits firearms on county property, including beaches and parks. One would require businesses that sell guns to place signage regarding the dangers of guns for their customers to view. The other measure requires gun owners to keep their firearms stored or disabled with a trigger lock.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other measures that might cause an uproar from opponents. One of those measures being explored is a county-wide gun registry. The proposal would create a database in conjunction with the L.A. County Sheriff\u2019s Department.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the motion obtained by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-02-07\/los-angeles-county-passes-gun-control-measures-after-fatal-mass-shootings\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-control-efforts-expand-in-los-angeles-county-after-monterey-park-shooting\" title=\"Gun Control Efforts Expand in Los Angeles County After Monterey Park Shooting\"><em>LA Times<\/em><\/a>, Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, who co-authored the proposal, believe that the measure would decrease the time it takes to trace guns in violent crime investigations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving access to a database that lists the firearm(s) registered to a certain address would allow first responders to better assess the situation and adjust their approach accordingly when responding to a call for service at an address with a licensed firearm,\u201d the motion reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervisor Horvath believes her proposal is \u201ccommon sense.\u201d<br \/><br \/>\u201cWe must do absolutely everything in our power to prevent and put an end to gun violence in our community. The proposal aims to incentivize gun owners to use trigger locks, take safety classes and utilize chamber load indicators.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the other measures mentioned in the press release include a letter-writing campaign to Sen.
