Chris Murphy (D-CT) does not believe there are enough lawmakers in the Senate who will vote for a bill to ban so-called &#8220;assault weapons,&#8221; despite a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/biden-releases-statement-in-wake-of-mass-killing-calls-for-greater-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">push by President Biden to have the upper chamber<\/a> bring it to the floor for consideration.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m glad that President Biden is gonna be pushing us to take a vote on an assault weapons ban,&#8221; Murphy told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/audio\/podcasts\/state-of-the-union-with-jake-tapper\/episodes\/3ee73f88-bd4c-4f29-9312-af5a010b7dd4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">CNN\u2019s<\/a><\/em> Dana Bash in an interview over the weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The House has already passed it. It\u2019s sitting in front of the Senate. Does it have 60 votes in the Senate right now? Probably not, but let\u2019s see if we can try to get that number is close to 60 as possible,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/whats-stake-georgias-us-senate-runoff-2022-11-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">virtually divided 50-50<\/a>, the Democrats will need approximately 10 Republicans to break ranks and support the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1808#:~:text=Passed%20House%20(07%2F29%2F2022)&amp;text=This%20bill%20makes%20it%20a,ammunition%20feeding%20device%20(LCAFD).\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">The \u201cSilenced Night\u201d Christmas Wishlist!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Passed by the House in June of 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1808\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">H.R. 1808, \u201cThe Assault Weapons Ban of 2021<\/a>,\u201c would not only prohibit the possession, sale and transfer of &#8220;semiautomatic assault weapons (SAW)&#8221; but also of &#8220;large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD).&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Murphy indicated that if they don&#8217;t vote on it by the end of this year, they&#8217;ll probably try it again in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If we don\u2019t have the votes, then we\u2019ll talk to [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer and maybe come back next year, with maybe an additional senator, and see if we can do better,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Murphy also spoke about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/everytown-slams-2a-sanctuary-movement-theyre-ripping-apart-the-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen. Chris Murphy: Votes Aren't There for 'Assault Weapons' Ban\">2A sanctuary movement<\/a>, and his desire to bring it to heel by denying federal resources to local law enforcement.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe majority of counties in this country declare that they are not going to enforce state and federal gun laws, they have decided that they are going to essentially refuse to implement the laws that are on the books. That is a growing problem in this country,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re gonna have to have a conversation about that in the United States Senate,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Do we want to continue to supply fundamental law enforcement in counties that refuse to implement state and federal gun laws?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2A sanctuary movement asserts that the Constitution is clear on one\u2019s right to keep and bear arms:&nbsp;<em>it shall not be infringed<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gun-control legislation, including confiscatory bans on modern sporting rifles or standard capacity magazines,&nbsp;<em>is infringement<\/em>.&nbsp; Disarming law-abiding citizens, either by force or systematically by making once lawful property unlawful,&nbsp;<em>is infringement<\/em>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, those public servants in the movement refuse to enforce such laws, citing the oath they took to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/idaho-joins-growing-list-of-second-amendment-sanctuary-states-following-bidens-gun-orders\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-chris-murphy-votes-arent-there-for-assault-weapons-ban\" title=\"Sen.
