The homeowner had noticed Santos in his yard and asked him to leave his property.  That&#8217;s when Santos came after him with a stick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/homeowner-shoots-and-kills-intruder-in-oakton-neighbors-react\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"virginia-homeowner-defends-family\" title=\"Virginia Homeowner Defends Family, Fatally Shoots Intruder Who Attacked with 'Landscaping Rock'\"><em>Fox5 News<\/em><\/a>, the homeowner had attempted to get inside but was \u201ctackled by Santos and injured in the fall.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Managing to retreat to his house, the homeowner grabbed his firearm. Santos followed him in, carrying what the police are calling a \u201clandscaping rock.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fearing for his safety and the safety of his family, the homeowner shot at Santos and then called 911.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/deputy-unintentionally-shoots-student-during-bad-guy-drill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"virginia-homeowner-defends-family\" title=\"Virginia Homeowner Defends Family, Fatally Shoots Intruder Who Attacked with 'Landscaping Rock'\">Deputy Unintentionally Shoots Student During \u2018Bad Guy\u2019 Drill<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once EMS personnel arrived, the homeowner was taken to a hospital to be treated, and Santos was pronounced dead.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports indicate that the situation is still under investigation, but police stated that there appeared to be no reason for the altercation. Detectives say that the men didn\u2019t appear to know one other and that no other factors seem to be in play.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detectives do not believe that Santos had any relationship with the other people in the house. They identified the homeowner\u2019s wife, two young children, and one other adult as the individuals who were in the house during the deadly encounter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have ruled this a self-defense shooting on the part of the homeowner, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/fcpdnews.wordpress.com\/2022\/11\/11\/man-breaks-into-home-and-fatally-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"virginia-homeowner-defends-family\" title=\"Virginia Homeowner Defends Family, Fatally Shoots Intruder Who Attacked with 'Landscaping Rock'\"><em>Fairfax County Police Dept. News<\/em><\/a>.
