He claims that the maroon car Cantu was in had \u201cevaded\u201d him the night before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, the report Brennand turned in the day after the incident doesn\u2019t match the video footage recently released to the public by SAPD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to his report, Brennand saw the car that had evaded him the night before, opened the door to find the teenager eating, and ordered him out. In the video\u2019s audio, Brennand can be heard radioing for help, \u201cShots fired! Shots fired!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This inconsistency is what has caused ripples. Originally Cantu was charged and Brennand was let off. Now that the video has been released, the charges against Cantu were dropped and Brennand has been fired.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, it was announced that Brennand would face charges for shooting at the teens.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kens5.com\/article\/news\/local\/law-enforcement\/whats-next-in-the-charges-against-former-sapd-officer-james-brennand-erik-cantu\/273-f9267be1-cd45-4d57-b1bd-c071aa2d8381\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"watch-highly-questionable-shoot-by-rookie-cop-leaves-teen-on-life-support\" title=\"WATCH: Highly Questionable Shoot By Rookie Cop Leaves Teen on Life Support\"><em>Kens5.com<\/em><\/a> reports that he faces two counts of aggravated assault by a public servant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brennand\u2019s colleagues in the force were interviewed after the incident and agreed that he acted out of bounds and that firing him was warranted. They also added that this was out of character for him.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kens5.com\/article\/news\/sapd-officer-fired-following-shootingt-fast-food-restaurant-parking-lot-san-antonio-police-department\/273-85f135b0-a401-4141-8f93-dd4b6634b111\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"watch-highly-questionable-shoot-by-rookie-cop-leaves-teen-on-life-support\" title=\"WATCH: Highly Questionable Shoot By Rookie Cop Leaves Teen on Life Support\"><em>Kens5.com<\/em> <\/a>interviewed William McManus, the chief of SAPD, who stated, \u201c[McManus] didn\u2019t know what the officer [Brennand] was thinking.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that I can say that could defend what he did, his actions that night,&#8221; McManus added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An in-depth report published by the SAPD details exactly what happened. It ought to be noted that Brennand was still within his 1-year probationary period after graduating from the academy.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"San Antonio Police Department: Critical Incident Video passenger managed to retreat from the hail of gunfire in his vehicle but did sustain injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both teenagers were found shortly thereafter and were given immediate medical attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initial reports said Cantu was recovering in University Hospital.\u00a0 More recent reports, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/article\/san-antonio-cop-shoots-17-year-old-17501341.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\"
