Hochul\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-landmark-legislation-strengthen-gun-laws-and-bolster-restrictions\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\"> sweeping gun-control package <\/a>has been anything but smooth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in July, in a knee-jerk response to the Supreme Court&#8217;s landmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-files-brief-in-scotus-remand-of-maryland-gun-ban-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\"><em>Bruen<\/em><\/a> decision striking down the state&#8217;s &#8220;may-issue&#8221; concealed-carry scheme, Hochul signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-landmark-legislation-strengthen-gun-laws-and-bolster-restrictions\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\">into law bills that<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Banned the sale of body armor to civilians<\/li><li>Required one to obtain a license to purchase a semiautomatic rifle (one must be 21 to obtain the license)<\/li><li>Expanded the state\u2019s confiscatory red flag law<\/li><li>Criminalized the sale of firearms that do not have microstamping technology<\/li><li>Removed the grandfather clause for magazines of a certain capacity purchased prior to the passage of the SAFE Act<\/li><li>Forced gun shops to adhere to uniform security and reporting standards<\/li><li>Established a new task force on \u201cSocial Media and Violent Extremism\u201d<\/li><li>Required background checks for ammo sales as well as creating a statewide ammunition license and database\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Local police departments, firearm retailers, and gun owners have way more questions about the new laws than answers, as GunsAmerica previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/confusion-is-the-word-as-ny-gov-hochuls-gun-laws-take-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hochul\u2019s administration has not provided any clarity thus far even though the laws took effect on Sept. 1.\u00a0 The governor continues to defend the draconian restrictions despite a growing number of critics.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/new-york-gov-kathy-hochul-signs-massive-gun-control-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\">New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Signs Massive Gun Control Package\u00a0<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re placed in an untenable position of enforcing laws that we might believe are unconstitutional, and as a former judge and DA, I still have my law license, I believe many provisions of this are unconstitutional and will be knocked down in the courts,\u201d said Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs6albany.com\/news\/local\/nys-new-gun-law-attracting-questions-concerns-and-lawsuits\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\"><em>CBS6Albany<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buffalo resident Spencer Rhyans told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgrz.com\/article\/news\/local\/new-gun-legislation-impacts-ammunition-sales-nys-wny-buffalo-cheektowaga\/71-a91f140e-097c-42dd-82d8-b34c837e6997\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\"><em>WGRZ<\/em><\/a> that the background check requirement for ammo purchases will not stop criminals from sourcing it. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRealistically, you can travel to a different state and pick up ammunition,\u201d said Rhyans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t need a license or anything,\u201d he added. \u201cCriminals aren&#8217;t stupid as much as we portray them to be. They know how to get around the system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several gun-rights groups have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/goa-and-gof-sue-new-york-over-new-concealed-carry-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cabelas-store-ropes-off-ammo-section-amid-confusion-over-new-gun-laws\" title=\"NY Cabela\u2019s Store Ropes Off Ammo Section Amid Confusion Over New Gun Laws\">already sued the state<\/a>, challenging the constitutionality of various provisions, including the new restrictions for a concealed carry permit that require one to \u201cdisplay good moral character.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No doubt there will be more lawsuits filed in the future.
