GENESEO, ILL. (09\/01\/22) \u2013<\/strong> Springfield Armory\u00ae is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy\u2122 AOS 9mm pistol<\/a>, the first offering in the new 1911 DS double-stack line of pistols. The Prodigy, available in both 5\u201d and 4.25\u201d variants, enhances the proven 1911 platform with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front\/u-notch rear sights as well as an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail, at the heart of the 9mm Prodigy pistol is the expertly engineered double-stack magazine. Mounted to the pistol\u2019s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended one, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat\u00ae family of 9mm pistols. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature a rugged black Cerakote\u00ae finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configured for today\u2019s most demanding applications, the Prodigy is ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX\u2122 Dragonfly\u2122 along with a variety of today\u2019s most popular red dot optics. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today\u2019s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store.
