{"id":167890,"date":"2022-08-24T10:31:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T14:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=167890"},"modified":"2022-08-24T10:31:14","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T09:22:21","slug":"everytown-takes-victory-lap-as-ghost-gun-rule-takes-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/everytown-takes-victory-lap-as-ghost-gun-rule-takes-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"Everytown Takes Victory Lap as &#8216;Ghost Gun&#8217; Rule Takes Effect"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ATF changes rules to regulate ghost guns\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PB8OOTVDVTs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun-control organization funded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, is taking a victory lap this week as the Biden administration&#8217;s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/04\/11\/fact-sheet-the-biden-administration-cracks-down-on-ghost-guns-ensures-that-atf-has-the-leadership-it-needs-to-enforce-our-gun-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"everytown-takes-victory-lap-as-ghost-gun-rule-takes-effect\" title=\"Everytown Takes Victory Lap as 'Ghost Gun' Rule Takes Effect\">rule<\/a> redefining &#8220;firearm&#8221; and &#8220;frame and receiver&#8221; is now in effect.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting today, purchasers of certain gun parts and kits will need to undergo a background check and all homemade firearms will have to be serialized.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUntraceable ghost guns have been a dream come true for criminals and a nightmare for law enforcement, but with this new rule our nation is finally waking up to the threat they pose,\u201d said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/home-built-perfection-lone-wolfs-new-freedom-wolf-80-frame\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"everytown-takes-victory-lap-as-ghost-gun-rule-takes-effect\" title=\"Everytown Takes Victory Lap as 'Ghost Gun' Rule Takes Effect\">Home Built Perfection: Lone Wolf\u2019s New Freedom Wolf 80% Frame<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGhost guns look like a gun, shoot like a gun, and kill like a gun, and they will now be regulated like conventional guns, thanks to bold leadership from the Biden-Harris Administration,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the ostensible goal is to stop bad guys from getting guns, the reality is that the vast majority of violent criminals have no problem sourcing firearms on the black market, as GunsAmerica previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/cbs-news-frets-over-fire-sale-of-so-called-ghost-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"everytown-takes-victory-lap-as-ghost-gun-rule-takes-effect\" title=\"Everytown Takes Victory Lap as 'Ghost Gun' Rule Takes Effect\">reported<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sad truth is this new rule will not lead to any material decrease in gun crime or murders.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What it will do, however, is work to dissuade hobbyists, collectors, and do-it-yourselfers from purchasing gun parts and kits and building guns at home.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between the added costs for the background check at the point of sale and the serialization requirement (Is every gun shop currently equipped to add serial numbers to firearms?), many prospective purchasers will opt to forgo the home-building experience for a commercially assembled firearm.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It goes without saying but when an activity becomes more expensive and complicated, fewer people are likely to participate.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, of course, when fewer people are likely to do something, it will impact the bottom line of those who provide that good or service. But violent criminals, the same ones who flout the thousands of existing laws regulating firearms, won&#8217;t.  They will still source guns illegally and commit crimes.  Nothing&#8217;s changed.
