And anyone under the age of 21, they said, should not be able to buy a gun classified as an \u2018assault weapon.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/team-remington-sporting-clay-shooters-medal-on-the-international-stage\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tampa-bay-times-editorial-board-touts-floridas-bipartisan-support-for-gun-control\" title=\"Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board Touts Florida\u2019s Bipartisan Support for Gun Control\u00a0\">Team Remington Sporting Clay Shooters Medal on the International Stage&nbsp;<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While it may indeed be true that there is majority support for measures like universal background checks and waiting periods for gun purchases, what the Board did not substantiate to any degree of satisfaction is the claim that these policies would \u201csignificantly reduce the appalling death toll.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board didn\u2019t bother to prove that claim because there is no reliable evidence that gun control works.&nbsp; None.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Do Studies Show Gun Control Works?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PgiQ-LmJGMY?start=1&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in March, <em>Reason.com<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/video\/2022\/03\/31\/do-studies-show-gun-control-works-no\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tampa-bay-times-editorial-board-touts-floridas-bipartisan-support-for-gun-control\" title=\"Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board Touts Florida\u2019s Bipartisan Support for Gun Control\u00a0\">conducted an in-depth examination of the wide body of social science literature<\/a> on the efficacy of gun control.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what the publication had to say, \u201cWe took a look at the significance of the 123 rigorous empirical studies and what they actually say about the efficacy of gun control laws. The answer: nothing.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/revolver-baldwin-was-holding-could-not-be-fired-without-trigger-pull-says-fbi-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tampa-bay-times-editorial-board-touts-floridas-bipartisan-support-for-gun-control\" title=\"Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board Touts Florida\u2019s Bipartisan Support for Gun Control\u00a0\">Revolver Baldwin Was Holding Could Not Be Fired Without Trigger Pull, Says FBI Report<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 123 studies that met RAND\u2019s criteria may have been the best of the 27,900 that were analyzed, but they still had serious statistical defects, such as a lack of controls, too many parameters or hypotheses for the data, undisclosed data, erroneous data, misspecified models, and other problems,&#8221; <em>Reason.com<\/em> added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day, no decent human being wants <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orlando_nightclub_shooting\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tampa-bay-times-editorial-board-touts-floridas-bipartisan-support-for-gun-control\" title=\"Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board Touts Florida\u2019s Bipartisan Support for Gun Control\u00a0\">gay revelers to be murdered at a nightclub<\/a> or high <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stoneman_Douglas_High_School_shooting\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"tampa-bay-times-editorial-board-touts-floridas-bipartisan-support-for-gun-control\" title=\"Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board Touts Florida\u2019s Bipartisan Support for Gun Control\u00a0\">school students to be slaughtered <\/a>during class. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violence is, indeed, a problem in our society. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if we are going to do something about it, we need to be intellectually honest about the proposed &#8220;solutions.&#8221;\u00a0 Because support for feel-good policies that have zero effect on criminals won\u2019t save lives.  It makes no difference if support for such policies is near universal or bipartisan.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, there is a cost to passing measures that only affect the law-abiding.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As <em>Reason.com<\/em> concluded, \u201cNot only is the social science literature on gun control broadly useless, but it provides endless fodder for advocates who say that \u2018studies prove\u2019 that a particular favored policy would have beneficial outcomes. This matters because gun laws, even if they don&#8217;t accomplish their goals, have large costs.
