{"id":167509,"date":"2022-08-10T05:43:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-10T09:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=167509"},"modified":"2022-08-10T05:43:00","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T09:00:03","slug":"new-jersey-hospital-director-charged-w-possession-of-an-assault-firearm-and-high-capacity-magazines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/new-jersey-hospital-director-charged-w-possession-of-an-assault-firearm-and-high-capacity-magazines\/","title":{"rendered":"New Jersey Hospital Director Charged w\/ Possession of an \u2018Assault Firearm\u2019 and &#8216;High-Capacity Magazines&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hospital worker arrested after cache of weapons found in closet\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fr2tMBGEqHo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A bizarre story out of New Jersey where the marketing director of a local hospital was arrested on charges related to what police are calling a \u201clarge cache of weaponry.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reuven Alonalayoff, 46, of Elmwood Park was arrested last Sunday after police responded to a bomb threat at Hudson Regional Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bomb threat turned out to be a hoax, but while police were searching the premises one of the K9s from the Hudson County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Bayonne Police Department \u201cgave a positive indication to unlocked closet within an office,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SecaucusPolice\/photos\/a.111775260476975\/591324155855414\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-jersey-hospital-director-charged-w-possession-of-an-assault-firearm-and-high-capacity-magazines\" title=\"New Jersey Hospital Director Charged w\/ Possession of an \u2018Assault Firearm\u2019 and 'High-Capacity Magazines'\">press release<\/a> from Secaucus Police Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police then discovered a total of 11 handguns, 27 rifles and shotguns, including a Kriss Vector .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle that authorities \u201cdetermined to be an assault rifle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police also recovered two \u201chigh-capacity magazines,\u201d one of which could hold 14 rounds, which violates the state\u2019s restriction of 10 rounds.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alonalayoff is now facing charges for possession of an assault firearm, and two counts of possession of a high-capacity magazine. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities nabbed Alonalayoff at Newark Liberty International Airport. He was on his way back from an extended medical trip to Israel, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/nj-hudson-regional-hospital-worker-arrested-weapons-charges\/12109896\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-jersey-hospital-director-charged-w-possession-of-an-assault-firearm-and-high-capacity-magazines\" title=\"New Jersey Hospital Director Charged w\/ Possession of an \u2018Assault Firearm\u2019 and 'High-Capacity Magazines'\"><em>Eyewitness News ABC7\/NY<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/new-jersey-governor-phil-murphy-signs-7-new-bills-tightening-gun-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-jersey-hospital-director-charged-w-possession-of-an-assault-firearm-and-high-capacity-magazines\" title=\"New Jersey Hospital Director Charged w\/ Possession of an \u2018Assault Firearm\u2019 and 'High-Capacity Magazines'\">New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Signs 7 New Bills Tightening Gun Laws<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The unsecured storage of a large cache of weaponry, especially in this location, certainly creates a risk to public safety,&#8221; said Secaucus police chief Dennis Miller in a statement on social media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI commend the efforts and professionalism of all the police personnel involved in this investigation and am thankful this situation was resolved without anyone being harmed,\u201d Miller continued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If convicted on all charges, Alonalayoff could face up to 10 years behind bars plus fines. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police did not say whether Alonalayoff had a criminal past nor did they indicate whether he was planning anything nefarious. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alonalayoff\u2019s office door was locked.&nbsp; However, the closet where the weapons were found was not.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe presence of weapons in a hospital is inexcusable beyond comprehension and contradicts our mission of care,\u201d said Hudson Regional Hospital in a statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned for updates as we&#8217;ve heard the official police narrative.
