{"id":167491,"date":"2022-08-10T16:19:10","date_gmt":"2022-08-10T20:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=167491"},"modified":"2022-08-10T16:19:10","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T08:59:33","slug":"graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife\/","title":{"rendered":"Graphic: Vegas Smoke Shop Owner Plans to Buy A Gun After Fighting Off Robber w\/ Knife\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Las Vegas shop owner stabs would-be thief multiple times\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OD7puHMoeVM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Something is always better than nothing when one\u2019s in a fight for their life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a Las Vegas smoke shop owner is now recognizing the value of having a firearm for self-defense after fending off one of at three masked robbers with a knife last Wednesday. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnny Nguyen, the owner of Smokestrom Smoke Shop near Orville, spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5vegas.com\/2022\/08\/06\/las-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-fights-back-stabs-robber\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife\" title=\"Graphic: Vegas Smoke Shop Owner Plans to Buy A Gun After Fighting Off Robber w\/ Knife\u00a0\"><em>FOX5<\/em><\/a> about his harrowing encounter that happened in broad daylight. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe whole time I was a little bit nervous because obviously I was getting robbed,\u201d said Nguyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was really scared for my life because they were wearing baggy clothes&#8230; one of them came in with a bag as if he had a firearm,\u201d Nguyen added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Footage shows two of the suspects entering the store.&nbsp; One steals a tip jar while the other jumps the counter to grab some items off the shelves. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/video-he-shot-my-arm-off-wounded-robber-screams-out-after-shotgun-wielding-store-owner-lands-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife\" title=\"Graphic: Vegas Smoke Shop Owner Plans to Buy A Gun After Fighting Off Robber w\/ Knife\u00a0\">VIDEO: \u2018He Shot My Arm Off,\u2019 Wounded Robber Screams Out After Shotgun-Wielding Store Owner Lands One&nbsp;<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nguyen immediately confronted the robber behind the counter, stabbing him multiple times with a knife. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was in a fight or flight mode\u2026 a lot of adrenaline going through my body,\u201d Nguyen said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The robber with the tip jar fled the scene.\u00a0 Nguyen dragged the other to the front of the store.\u00a0 He then called the police. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s unclear how serious that suspect was wounded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said that in total three juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many in the community have voice support for Nguyen, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/johnny-nguyen?utm_campaign=p_lico%2Bshare-sheet&amp;utm_medium=copy_link&amp;utm_source=customer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife\" title=\"Graphic: Vegas Smoke Shop Owner Plans to Buy A Gun After Fighting Off Robber w\/ Knife\u00a0\">GoFundMe<\/a> page has been set up to help cover potential legal fees, there are questions surrounding his use of force.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney Thomas Boley told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/news3lv.com\/news\/local\/community-gathers-behind-smoke-shop-clerk-caught-on-camera-stabbing-would-be-robber\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"graphic-vegas-smoke-shop-owner-plans-to-buy-a-gun-after-fighting-off-robber-w-knife\" title=\"Graphic: Vegas Smoke Shop Owner Plans to Buy A Gun After Fighting Off Robber w\/ Knife\u00a0\">News3<\/a> <\/em>that Nevada\u2019s Stand Your Ground Law creates a gray area for businesses, especially when it\u2019s unclear if the suspects were armed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s key in this case is the distance between the two people. You\u2019ve got this clerk, and this guy is coming at him, you know he could, depending on the rest of the facts, theoretically fear for his safety,\u201d said Boley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
