The matchup encapsulates why gun control efforts on Capitol Hill continue even after President Joe Biden signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/biden-signs-bipartisan-safer-communities-act-with-help-from-these-15-gop-senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">Bipartisan Safer Communities Act<\/a> into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For gun control, the rights of law-abiding Americans remain in the crosshairs while criminals are ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">House Hearings<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and called three firearm industry leaders to testify in the near future at what would be a show hearing on gun control. She\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/07\/house-committee-calls-ceos-gun-manufacturer-testify\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">demanding<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;gross revenue and profit from sales of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs). She also wants spending on advertising and marketing, on federal and state lobbying and on their donations to gun rights groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYour company is continuing to profit from the sale and marketing of weapons of war to civilians despite the harm these weapons cause,\u201d Rep. Maloney castigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What Rep. Maloney ignores is that they don\u2019t have a role in criminal violence. Criminals do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Chairwoman Maloney was concerned about the role of criminals who illegally obtain and misuse firearms, she could&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/27\/a-bronx-teen-who-was-let-out-of-jail-only-to-allegedly-commit-murder-is-out-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\"><strong>look closer<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to home for witnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rival Programming<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, House Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), who\u2019s facing Rep. Maloney, is refusing to play second fiddle on the Second Amendment attacks. Chairman Nadler is holding his own committee hearing this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep. Nadler\u2019s committee will mark up a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/jul\/15\/house-panel-take-assault-weapons-ban-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\"><strong>Assault Weapon Ban<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0bill,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/ess-house-bill-1808-cosponsors\/4k2sfr\/636430660?h=APy9oErvQb0UVl08pOx6ynqgfc0ZJxwWyWbmDIokXnQ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">H.R. 1808<\/a><\/strong>. The bill would ban the manufacturing or sale of \u201cany new semi-automatic rifles, including those that can accept a detachable magazine\u2026\u201d The proposed legislation lists a series of cosmetic features that would classify a firearm for the ban. The bill would also ban standard capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-gun-free-zone-lie\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">The Gun-Free Zone Lie<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Assault Weapon Ban is a response to President Joe Biden\u2019s repeated calls for it, even though the previous one he helped pass in 1994, which also banned standard capacity magazines, expired after 10 years and did little to nothing to reduce crime. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/president-bidens-ultimate-goal-ban-guns-a-failed-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">said<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;the impact on gun violence of renewing the ban would possibly be \u201ctoo small for reliable measurement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Americans\u2019 support for a so-called \u201cAssault Weapons\u201d ban is historically low. A Gallup poll from last month showed support for a ban only registered&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/jul\/15\/house-panel-take-assault-weapons-ban-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\"><strong>55 percent<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;while an Associated Press poll from May showed only&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/jul\/15\/house-panel-take-assault-weapons-ban-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\"><strong>51 percent<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;did. Moderate Democrats like Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) are leery of banning certain classes of firearms. \u201cI don\u2019t believe in bans on weapons,\u201d Rep. Cuellar told&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/3560804-house-to-move-toward-vote-on-assault-weapons-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\" title=\"NY Democratic Primary Spurs Gun Control Moves\">The Hill<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman Nadler would trample on the Constitution to save his political career despite the recent U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Bruen<\/em>&nbsp;decision holding that laws, like this bill, that infringe on the Second Amendment that are not grounded in the text, history and national traditions at the time of the founding of our nation, will not pass Constitutional muster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senate Action<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the Capitol in the U.S. Senate, Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is holding a hearing of his own titled, \u201cAfter the Highland Park Attack: Protecting Our Communities from Mass Shootings.\u201d Sen. Durbin\u2019s hearing is expected to cast blame on the firearm industry for the criminal acts of deranged individuals and call for a reinstatement of the \u201cassault weapon\u201d ban as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe point that they were making to us, and to everyone, is: this is madness\u2014to allow individuals to have this type of weapon who are not members of the military, not policemen\u2014and to use these weapons on other Americans is unthinkable,\u201d Sen. Durbin said. One might expect the chairman to have bothered to read&nbsp;<em>Heller<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>McDonald<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Bruen<\/em>&nbsp;before opining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) has said the Senate is done with gun control and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has vowed not to end the filibuster. The prospects of any legislation passing both chambers are nearly zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Antigun Democrats continue to show they aren\u2019t serious about addressing criminals actually committing the crimes. They only want control and to restrict the rights of Americans already following the laws. Our God-given rights are mere rungs on their political ladder. The upcoming committee hearings are examples of why Americans continue to take up their Second Amendment rights in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsfront\/guns-sales-usa-fbi\/2022\/07\/05\/id\/1077412\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-democratic-primary-spurs-gun-control-moves\"
