{"id":166356,"date":"2022-07-14T10:04:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-14T14:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=166356"},"modified":"2022-07-14T10:04:42","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T08:05:19","slug":"florida-sheriff-absolutely-no-charges-for-homeowner-ak-repel-invaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/florida-sheriff-absolutely-no-charges-for-homeowner-ak-repel-invaders\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Sheriff Says &#8216;Absolutely&#8217; No Charges For Homeowner Who Used AK to Repel Invaders\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be \u201cabsolutely\u201d no charges for a Florida man who used an AK-pattern rifle to defend himself from a trio of home invaders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons made that clear at a recent press conference about the incident that occurred around midnight on July 7.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Those of you who may ask a question, is the homeowner going to be charged for shooting at these people? Absolutely not,&#8221; the sheriff said. &#8220;The homeowner&#8217;s protecting himself, and in Florida, in Escambia County, you can protect yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simmons said the perps were armed when they forcibly entered the victim\u2019s home.&nbsp; One of them pointed a handgun at the homeowner and the two others shoved him to the ground. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victim had a pistol on his person but it was knocked to the floor when the suspects pushed him down.&nbsp; During the subsequent scramble, the victim was able to escape to the back of the house and retrieve his AK-style rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/florida-sheriff-encourages-homeowners-gun-safety-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"florida-sheriff-absolutely-no-charges-for-homeowner-ak-repel-invaders\" title=\"Florida Sheriff Says 'Absolutely' No Charges For Homeowner Who Used AK to Repel Invaders\u00a0\">Florida Sheriff Encourages Homeowners to Take a Gun Safety Class and \u2018Save the Taxpayers Money\u2019<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At that point, the victim opened fire on the suspects.&nbsp; All three fled the scene. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators identified two of the three suspects as Antonio DeWayne Dean Jr., 18, and Da\u2019Torrance Leanders Hackworth, 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We get a report of a third individual that had a wound to the head not long after [the home invasion]. The stories he&#8217;s giving us as to how he got shot in the head are inconsistent at best. In short, we don&#8217;t believe him.
