Despite the gun control law he just signed and the Supreme Court\u2019s\u00a0Bruen\u00a0decision, President Joe Biden told the nation we want more gun control. He wants to ban guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Biden demanded Congress reinstate the failed 1994 Assault Weapons Ban to usher in a new era of strict gun control to deny law-abiding citizens their Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re living in a country awash in weapons of war,\u201d the president said, according to Fox News<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cI am determined to ban these weapons again, and high capacity magazines that hold 30 rounds, and let mass shooters fire hundreds of bullets in a matter of minutes. I\u2019m not going to stop until we do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the same 10-year federal ban on both Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) and magazines with a carrying capacity over 10 cartridges that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concluded<\/a><\/strong> did little to nothing to reduce crime. The Department of Justice (DOJ) found in their own assessment<\/strong><\/a> that renewing the \u201cimpact on gun violence is likely to be small at best, and perhaps too small for reliable measurement.\u201d That\u2019s because the DOJ\u2019s annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) consistently shows<\/strong><\/a> that murders from all rifles \u2013 not just MSRs \u2013 are less than that of murders committed with knives, clubs and fists. Even the left-leaning Politifact<\/a><\/strong> rated this \u201cMostly True\u201d after parsing the data and noted that some murder reports don\u2019t include the type of weapon used in a murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facts and the Constitution be damned. President Biden wants his failed solution back and he wants it now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ignore & Deflect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not surprising that the president is demanding it. NSSF warned it was coming back in 2019, when then-candidate Biden said<\/strong><\/a> from the debate stage, \u201cOur enemy is the gun manufacturers, not the NRA, the gun manufacturers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Biden, speaking<\/a><\/strong> in The White House Rose Garden, claimed the recent Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was \u201creal progress, but more has to be done.\u201d He blamed the firearm industry for indifference, saying, \u201cWe all know a lot of the reasons: gun lobby, gun manufacturers, special interest money, the rise of hyper-partisan tribal politics in the country where we don\u2019t debate the issues on the merits and we just rather turn on each other from our corners and attack the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That ignores the reality. The firearm industry has been leading on bringing true gun safety to the forefront. The\u00a0Real Solutions. Safer Communities<\/strong><\/a>\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0campaign includes Department of Justice (DOJ) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) partnerships to prevent illegal straw purchases and improve security at firearm retailers. The firearm industry\u2019s\u00a0Project ChildSafe<\/strong><\/a>\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0initiative has provided over 40 million free firearm safety kits \u2013 including locking devices \u2013 for over 15,000 law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and five U.S. territories. It was NSSF\u2019s leadership on\u00a0FixNICS<\/a>\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0that inspired the Fix NICS Act, which compelled federal agencies and incentivized states to submit all disqualifying records to the FBI so the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president ignores that. Instead, he spreads fear and fumbles through facts. He claimed<\/a>,<\/strong> \u201cA 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.\u201d That followed his previous demands<\/strong><\/a> that 9 mm handguns \u2013 among the most popular sold today \u2013 should also be banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing for<\/strong> a<\/strong> ban<\/strong><\/a> on any firearm that\u2019s \u201cintentionally designed to kill.\u201d  A remarkable statement coming from a lawyer who served as her state\u2019s attorney general and on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Perhaps she hasn\u2019t had time to read the Bruen<\/em> decision in which the Supreme Court held \u2013 again \u2013 that the Second Amendment protects the pre-existing right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not So Fast<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Biden administration is ignoring the fact that Americans \u2013 of all races, creeds, colors and all walks of life \u2013 are purchasing firearms in record numbers. Over 14 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans purchased a firearm for the first time in 2020 and 2021. Background checks for the sale of a gun shattered previous records in 2020 at over 21 million. Another 18.5 million were completed in 2021. For 35 months straight<\/strong><\/a>, there have been over 1 million background checks for gun sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent NPR\/Ipsos poll<\/strong><\/a> showed that not even half of gun owners would entertain the idea of a ban on MSRs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis NPR\/Ipsos survey of American gun owners\u2026 harbor deep distrust of government suggesting the barriers that exist to more actions on guns,\u201d said Ipsos senior vice president Chris Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerone Davis, an African American pastor running for Congress in Arizona, released a television ad showing why Americans need the choice to protect themselves and their families with MSRs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocrats like to say that nobody needs an AR-15 for self-defense, that no one could possibly need all 30 rounds,\u201d Davis explains in the video according to Fox News<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> \u201cBut when this rifle is the only thing standing between your family and a dozen angry Democrats in Klan hoods, you just might need that semi-automatic, and all 30 rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Biden wants to eliminate that choice. Vice President Harris wants anything that could kill to be banned. The guns are the first part. The real control is you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
