Today\u2019s announcement puts power and information into the hands of our communities by helping them better&nbsp;understand&nbsp;the role and potential dangers of&nbsp;firearms&nbsp;within our state,&#8221; Bonta said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the dashboard, visitors could find data from the past decade for all of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dealer Record of Sales<\/li><li>Gun Violence Restraining Orders<\/li><li>Carry Concealed Weapons Permits<\/li><li>Firearms Safety Certificates<\/li><li>Assault Weapons&nbsp;<\/li><li>Roster of Certified Handguns<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, users who visited the platform on Monday during its initial launch quickly noted that the DOJ was not living up to its promise to protect personal info. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As <em>Fox40<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/fox40.com\/news\/california-connection\/names-addresses-of-every-ccw-holder-in-california-exposed-fresno-county-sheriffs-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-doj-leaks-personal-info-of-all-concealed-carry-permit-holders\" title=\"California DOJ Leaks Personal Info of All Concealed Carry Permit Holders\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Sheriff\u2019s Office officials say the information released included the CCW holders\u2019 name, age, address, Criminal Identification Index (CII) number and license type (Standard, Judicial, Reserve and Custodial). Bonta<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/brandeis\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-doj-leaks-personal-info-of-all-concealed-carry-permit-holders\" title=\"California DOJ Leaks Personal Info of All Concealed Carry Permit Holders\">Barba v. Bonta<\/a>)<\/em> to protect gun owners&#8217; privacy and to stop something like this from happening.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe knew that somehow this private gun owner information would get leaked or misused and that is why the Second Amendment Foundation filed suit against the state of California,\u201d said SAF Founder Alan Gottlieb in an email to GunsAmerica.&nbsp; \u201cWe have been proved right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a disgusting violation of the right of privacy,\u201d Gottlieb added. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During an April 5 hearing of <em>Doe v. Bonta<\/em>, a representative for the DOJ explicitly said that it would keep the sensitive information confidential and that any breach could even lead to criminal prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20220629\/california-leaks-personal-data-of-carry-permit-holders\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-doj-leaks-personal-info-of-all-concealed-carry-permit-holders\" title=\"California DOJ Leaks Personal Info of All Concealed Carry Permit Holders\">NRA-ILA<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We acknowledge that the information is confidential. AB 173, I think, is quite clear that the information can\u2019t be shared publicly. It\u2019s our position that, if there is a disclosure, that those whose information is disclosed would have various remedies including \u2013 there might be criminal implications for someone who disclosed the information knowingly. There is civil remedies under various state laws. And so the information is confidential\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, the DOJ did not hold up its end of the bargain.
