Kendi is to be believed, millions of new first-time African American gun owners support slavery. That includes huge numbers of African American women, the fastest growing membership demographic within the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) over the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kendi\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/06\/22\/ibram-x-kendi-associates-second-amendment-with-freedom-to-enslave\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\">joined<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<em>CBS\u2019s<\/em> &#8220;Face the Nation&#8221; and somehow equated support for the Secondment Amendment and supporting the freedom to own a firearm with supporting the \u201cfreedom to enslave\u201d people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are people who are fighting for freedom \u2013 freedom from assault rifles, freedom from poverty, freedom from exploitation,\u201d Kendi told show host Margaret Brennan. \u201cAnd there are others who are fighting for freedom to exploit \u2013 freedom to have guns, freedom to maintain inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kendi\u2019s estimation is that if someone supports gun ownership, they also support exploiting people. Got it. There was no follow up or pushback from Brennan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recent History<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last 30 months or so, law-abiding Black Americans have been among the most likely to embrace the Second Amendment and take up lawful firearm ownership. NSSF data showed that African Americans purchased firearms at a rate of 58 percent more in 2020 than they did in 2019. It wasn\u2019t just Black gun buyers either. During the same span,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/the-firearm-industry-needs-a-giant-biden-i-did-that-sticker\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\"><strong>49 percent<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;more Hispanic Americans purchased firearms and the rate was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/the-firearm-industry-needs-a-giant-biden-i-did-that-sticker\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\"><strong>43 percent<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;more for Asian Americans. Since 2020, more than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/analysis-what-weve-learned-about-all-those-new-gun-owners-member-exclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\"><strong>14 million<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;first-time buyers have lawfully purchased a firearm making the gun-owning community the most diverse it\u2019s ever been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAAGA Founder and President Philip Smith saw it coming even further back. He started his group in 2015 but&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/black-people-are-looking-safety-gun-ownership-rcna32150\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\">noted<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;recently he\u2019s seen \u201can awakening\u201d among African Americans and their interest in the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a value-add to their family household, as opposed to, let\u2019s say, 10 years ago or six years ago. This is a movement in a certain direction, and I think it\u2019s a good direction,\u201d Smith added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also owns several firearms, including more than one Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), or the so-called \u201cassault weapon\u201d Kendi described.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/orlando-police-release-footage-of-deadly-shootout-during-traffic-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\">Orlando Police Release Footage of Deadly Shootout During Traffic Stop<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Far from the \u201cold white man\u201d caricature often portrayed in a media that is generally pro-gun control and antigun, Pew Research tells a different story. A truer one. While 36 percent of white Americans freely reveal they are gun owners, 24 percent of African Americans and 15 percent of Hispanic Americans say so too, likely under-reporting gun ownership figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Kendi may be disappointed to learn that a simple&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=changing+face+of+american+gun+owners&amp;rlz=1C1RXQR_enUS1002US1002&amp;sxsrf=ALiCzsarIBaKEQhHcqBGTWqfGVzmLv7bzw:1656103794123&amp;source=lnms&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiO_u-y-8b4AhXKEFkFHS5tD8wQ_AUoAHoECAEQAg&amp;biw=1520&amp;bih=724&amp;dpr=1.25\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\"><strong>Google search<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;of \u201cChanging face of American gun owner\u201d returns no shortage of fact-based reporting on who exactly is embracing the Second Amendment. It is not Americans seeking to \u201cexploit\u201d and \u201censlave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Empowerment Over Exploitation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>NAAGA\u2019s Smith has revealed his national pro-Second Amendment group has nearly 50,000 members and has gained 1,000 or more new members each month since 2020. One of those members is Zhe Parson of Petersburgh, Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parson\u2019s father, grandfather and uncles were all gun owners and they helped teach her safe and proper gun use. She owns three guns today and encourages her girlfriends to learn about gun ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of people of color don\u2019t necessarily want firearms in their possession or anywhere near their children or their family because of fear something could happen,\u201d Parson&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/black-people-are-looking-safety-gun-ownership-rcna32150\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\">told<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;media. \u201cA lot of that is about not knowing about gun safety. But the numbers are going up because of one thing: Black people, Black women included, want to protect themselves.\u201d<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kendi gets plenty wrong in his analysis and equating being pro-Second Amendment with being pro-enslavement, as he terms it. He ignores the thorough history of Black gun ownership in America and African American support for that God-given right. The NAAGA website highlights the pro-gun rights struggles of the Black Panthers, the Tuskegee Airmen, Harriet Tubman and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/judiciary\/565177-second-amendment-latest-issue-to-be-reframed-wrongly-as-racist\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"another-activist-equates-being-pro-2a-with-being-pro-slavery\" title=\"Another Activist Equates Being Pro-2A with Being Pro-Slavery\">op-ed<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in <em>The Hill<\/em>, law professor Jonathon Turley points out the numerous flaws in the \u201cSecond Amendment is racist\u201d argument. Kendi and those sharing his views get it wrong, Turley writes, and how far too often, their theories are, \u201cnot challenged on the Second Amendment\u2019s history or purpose, despite overwhelming (and largely ignored) evidence to the contrary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Second Amendment is colorblind and is for all law-abiding Americans, no matter one\u2019s race, gender or creed. Recent history shows us African Americans are exercising their right to own a gun.
