{"id":164912,"date":"2022-06-09T09:24:26","date_gmt":"2022-06-09T13:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=164912"},"modified":"2022-06-09T09:24:26","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T07:06:33","slug":"detroit-resident-fatally-shoots-armed-intruder-i-had-to-defend-myself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/detroit-resident-fatally-shoots-armed-intruder-i-had-to-defend-myself\/","title":{"rendered":"Detroit Resident Fatally Shoots Armed Intruder: &#8216;I had to defend myself&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday morning at 4:30 am, Maiso Jackson, who resides on Salem Street on the west side of Detroit, was awakened by a man knocking on his door and yelling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parts of this encounter were recorded on the homeowner\u2019s Ring doorbell camera, which you can view in the video embedded above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson opened the door, and was met with a man showing obvious aggression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c(He was) talking about how someone owed him money, I said no one here owes you money,\u201d Jackson told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox2detroit.com\/news\/detroit-homeowner-shoots-kills-armed-suspect-it-was-me-or-him\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"detroit-resident-fatally-shoots-armed-intruder-i-had-to-defend-myself\" title=\"Detroit Resident Fatally Shoots Armed Intruder: 'I had to defend myself'\">Fox2 News<\/a>,<\/em> looking back at the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what you\u2019re talking about,\u201d he told the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The man was insisting that money was owed, and Jackson was unable to reason with him. He began to feel threatened, so he called 911. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While waiting for the authorities to arrive, the man became more violent towards Jackson. He broke a window, and Jackson feared that the destruction would continue. It was at this point Jackson chose to arm himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/caught-on-camera-the-time-trudeau-told-voters-confiscation-will-never-happen-in-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"detroit-resident-fatally-shoots-armed-intruder-i-had-to-defend-myself\" title=\"Detroit Resident Fatally Shoots Armed Intruder: 'I had to defend myself'\">Caught on Camera: The Time Trudeau Told Voters Confiscation Will Never Happen In Canada&nbsp;<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson has had a gun for eight years and has taken part in gun safety training.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson recalled the events, \u201cI came outside and said you have to leave, you can\u2019t be doing this. So then he reached for his gun and pulled it out. I had to defend myself, I had to shoot him because of that.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson fired four shots, hitting the man in the chest and killing him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson was sure that it was the perp&#8217;s life or his own, and that if he did not act in self-defense he would have been killed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police arrived and put Jackson in cuffs.  Jackson willingly followed orders, being aware that even as a lawful gun owner he would be questioned about the incident.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was just in shock, he wouldn\u2019t leave. He tried to kill me and I didn\u2019t do nothing to the guy,&#8221; Jackson said. &#8220;That\u2019s the part that\u2019s kind of sad.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By sharing this story, Jackson hopes that others can learn a lesson from his experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to be on guard, you have to be prepared, You can\u2019t just let people run you over, hurt you, and don\u2019t do nothing about it. You have to defend yourself,&#8221; he said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson was questioned and released without any charges, according to Detroit police.
