{"id":164431,"date":"2022-05-31T16:50:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-31T20:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=164431"},"modified":"2022-05-31T16:50:19","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T06:46:00","slug":"good-gal-with-gun-stops-active-shooter-fatally-shoots-convicted-felon-with-ar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/good-gal-with-gun-stops-active-shooter-fatally-shoots-convicted-felon-with-ar\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Gal with Gun Stops Active Shooter: Fatally Shoots Convicted Felon with AR \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities in Charleston, West Virginia, are hailing the brave and decisive actions of an armed female who they say \u201cprevented a mass casualty event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident began last Wednesday when folks at a birthday party asked 37-year-old Dennis Butler to slow down after they claimed he was speeding through a parking lot where there were children at play. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Butler, a two-time convicted felon, was allegedly enraged by the request.&nbsp; He would return a short while later, armed with an AR-pattern rifle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Butler pulled back up, he began firing at the crowd of partygoers. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say that\u2019s when the quick-acting citizen returned fire and fatally shot the attacker.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This lady was carrying a lawful firearm,&#8221; Lt. Tony Hazelett with the Charleston Police Department told local media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A law abiding citizen who stopped the threat of probably 20 or 30 people getting killed. She engaged the threat and stopped it,\u201d he continued.&nbsp; \u201cShe didn&#8217;t run from the threat, she engaged it. Butler, a two-time convicted felon, was attempting to murder partygoers with an AR-pattern rifle.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;She did the right thing.
