JB Pritzker this week signed legislation banning the sale and possession of unserialized firearms, even though the Biden administration<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/breaking-biden-announces-nationwide-ghost-gun-ban-nominates-new-atf-director\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\"> has already taken steps to do the same<\/a> nationwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The people creating, selling, and purchasing these firearms know that they&#8217;re working to circumvent common-sense gun laws that ensure guns stay out of the hands of traffickers, abusers, and convicted criminals,&#8221; said Governor JB Pritzker in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinois.gov\/news\/press-release.24921.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">press release<\/a> obtained by GunsAmerica. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are seeing these unserialized guns being built in basements by those who should never have had access to such dangerous weapons and then used to commit heinous crimes, and it must be stopped to keep Illinoisans safe,\u201d he continued. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The elevated fear over so-called \u201cGhost Guns\u201d is overblown, according to Erich Pratt, the Senior VP of Gun Owners of America. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-announces-new-rule-modernize-firearm-definitions\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">According to the Department of Justice<\/a>, privately made firearms were found at 692 homicide or attempted homicide crime scenes over a six-year period,\u201d Pratt told GunsAmerica via email. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat means that, at worst, out of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ucr.fbi.gov\/crime-in-the-u.s\/2019\/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019\/topic-pages\/tables\/table-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">more than 16,000 yearly murders<\/a>, homemade guns are used in around 115 homicides per year,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat\u2019s far fewer murders than many common items which are easily found around one\u2019s house \u2014 such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ucr.fbi.gov\/crime-in-the-u.s\/2019\/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019\/topic-pages\/tables\/expanded-homicide-data-table-8.xls\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">knives (1,476), hammers or blunt objects (397), or fists and feet (600)<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, proponents for widespread prohibitions on homemade firearms contend those numbers are rising. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/more-proof-chicago-is-just-as-corrupt-violent-and-chaotic-as-you-think-it-is\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">More Proof That Chicago is Just as Corrupt, Violent, and Chaotic as You Think It Is<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Untraceable guns are a rapidly growing threat to our communities and law enforcement,&#8221; said Illinois House Speaker Emanuel &#8220;Chris&#8221; Welch. &#8220;I&#8217;m proud to see Illinois become the first state in the Midwest to ban ghost guns, and to keep these weapons out of the hands of dangerous criminals.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, banning gun parts and kits won\u2019t make dangerous criminals less dangerous.&nbsp; or Pritzker\u2019s state ban on \u201cghost guns\u201d will make any difference at all, especially considering that the Democratic party prefers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/chicago-do-not-take-matters-into-your-own-hands-call-the-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"illinois-governor-signs-legislation-banning-ghost-guns\" title=\"Illinois Governor Signs Legislation Banning \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\u00a0\">a soft-on-crime approach<\/a> that creates a revolving door of justice?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, told GunsAmerica via email, &#8220;What he should be banning are &#8216;Ghost Criminals&#8217; who commit gun crimes and are immediacy released with no bail and never show up in court again until they are arrested for committing another violent crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is time to demonize violet criminals, not legitimate gun ownership,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb&#8217;s correct.
