Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By Larry Keane<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The horrifying murders of 10 innocent lives in Buffalo, New York, by a racist hate-filled young man raises questions of why and how this criminal was able to commit crimes that defy understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New York\u2019s Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul didn\u2019t waste a moment in calling for strict nationwide gun control laws. She made wild assumptions that the murderer obtained magazines from states other than New York. She later recanted this claim admitting she did not know where or how he obtained the magazines in his possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have some of the toughest laws in America on the books here, but the guns are coming in from other states or the enhanced magazine, which is exactly what happened here, the high-capacity magazine that led to the slaughter of people in my hometown,\u201d Gov. Hochul&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/05\/15\/ny-gov-hochul-we-need-national-laws-to-deal-with-guns-social-media\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">told<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;Dana Bash on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d Sunday show. \u201cSo, we are dealing with it on the gun side but also on the social media side. And the combination of the wild access to guns, unfettered, we need national laws to deal with this as well as the unfettered sharing of hate information on the internet, that is a lethal combination. We saw that on display here just hours ago yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That wasn\u2019t the case at all. Gov. Hochul should have instead waited for the facts. The murderer legally purchased the New York-compliant firearm used in his crimes after passing an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) verification. He&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/05\/16\/why-new-yorks-assault-weapon-ban-didnt-stop-the-buffalo-massacre\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\"><strong>illegally altered<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and modified the firearm. There was&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/15\/report-gun-used-in-buffalo-grocery-attack-was-acquired-legally\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">nothing<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in his criminal or mental health record that would have flagged him as a prohibited individual. Later reports revealed that there should have been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Missed Opportunities<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer was previously known to law enforcement. Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/buffalo-shooting-suspect-payton-gendron-threat-school-mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\"><strong>told media<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;the New York State Police verified that troopers responded to Susquehanna High School in Conklin, N.Y., \u201cto investigate a report that a 17-year-old student had made a threatening statement.\u201d The N.Y. State Police spokesperson did not identify the subject by name but said there was no target associated with the threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commissioner Gramaglia added, \u201cThey investigated. They interviewed the subject, and they felt it was appropriate at that time to have that individual brought in for a mental health evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The murderer was held for a day-and-a-half for a mental health evaluation but was subsequently released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs far as when we say \u2018On the radar,\u2019 there was nothing picked up on the state police intelligence, nothing that was picked up on the FBI intelligence,\u201d Commissioner Gramaglia said. \u201cNobody called in. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">Good Guy With Gun Attempted to Stop Mass Killer in Buffalo<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s despite&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/buffalo-shooting-suspect-payton-gendron-threat-school-mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">reports<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;that the murderer made pointed and specific threats to the school and community less than a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA school official reported that this very troubled young man had made statements indicating that he wanted to do a shooting, either at a graduation ceremony, or sometime after,\u201d a government official familiar with the case&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/buffalo-supermarket-shooting-update-victims\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">told<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;the Buffalo News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFBI officials confirmed the shooter allegedly wanted to commit a murder\/suicide at the graduation of his high school in 2021 and was taken into custody by the New York State Police and given a mental evaluation,\u201d ABC News&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/reported-mass-shooting-upstate-york-tops-supermarket\/story?id=84721175\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">reported<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A mental health evaluation alone isn\u2019t enough to list someone as a prohibited individual, which would have flagged the murderer in the FBI\u2019s NICS. The murderer, at the time of this investigation less than a year ago, was never brought in front of a judge for a mental health adjudication. Nor was he ever referred to law enforcement as being a danger to himself or others and subject to an Extreme Risk Protection Order, or \u201cred-flag\u201d law that New York has in place for just these sorts of circumstances. Either would have prevented the murderer from obtaining his firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gun Control Fail<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Hochul wasn\u2019t alone in her calls for immediate, knee-jerk gun control calls without having all the facts. U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.)&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenGillibrand\/status\/1525585953519243269?cxt=HHwWisC4nfCV_KsqAAAA\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">tweeted<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;the need to \u201cpass commonsense gun safety measures.\u201d Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) tweeted for gun control support,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CoryBooker\/status\/1525975431605796865?cxt=HHwWgoCyjb6kra0qAAAA\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">writing<\/a>,<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe are not powerless to help end this reoccurring violence unique to our nation. Reach out to organizations organizing to stop it; help bring about change.\u201d He added a list of gun control groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) ran quickly with half-truths, parroting gun control talking points even when the facts of the tragedy didn\u2019t align.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to be 21 to buy a pistol in this country,\u201d Rep. Kinzinger&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/nation-world\/lawmakers-condemn-hate-based-attack-in-buffalo-and-renew-calls-for-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">wrote<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;on Twitter. \u201cCan we all at least agree we should raise the age to 21 for ARs as well? Shouldn\u2019t everyone have a background check? I think so. These are 90% issues, do it now and keep debating the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sickening truth is that the alleged murderer chose to commit his crimes with this specific firearm to gain media notoriety. He&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/buffalo-shooter-reportedly-chose-a-new-york-target-because-of-its-gun-control-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\"><strong>allegedly wrote<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;in his purported manifesto, \u201cThe effect it would have on social discourse, the extra media coverage they would provide, and the changes to gun laws that will be pushed will all help my case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also allegedly indicated that he specifically chose to commit his terrible crimes in an area he believed his victims would be disarmed. He&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/buffalo-shooter-reportedly-chose-a-new-york-target-because-of-its-gun-control-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\">referenced<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;New York\u2019s strict gun control laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlus NY has heavy gun laws so it would ease me if I knew that any legally armed civilian was limited to 10 round magazines or cucked firearms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Citizens Reject Gun Control<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Not every New Yorker is buying more gun control to protect them from deranged racist murderers. One Buffalo resident&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/15\/buffalo-resident-armed-law-abiding-citizens-key-to-ending-mass-shootings\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gov-hochul-must-answer-questions-before-making-gun-control-demands\" title=\"Gov. Hochul Must Answer Questions Before Making Gun Control Demands\"><strong>told Fox News<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. Something has to change. If more people were armed \u2013 and knew what they were doing with a gun \u2013 because it\u2019s not the gun. It\u2019s the person with the gun that don\u2019t know how to act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Hochul and her fellow gun control politicians will likely press forward with gun control measures. They\u2019ll do so with the mantra of \u201cdoing something\u201d to protect their communities. Sadly, it is clear that gun control measures are disarming law-abiding citizens.
