hidden inside a \u201cbody cavity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect, identified as Turkise Petway, was being processed at the Nash County Detention Center on April 29 when guards there made him pass through a Tek-84 body scanner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the scanner&#8217;s ability to detect contraband hidden on one\u2019s person \u2014 and inside one\u2019s person &#8212; it took only a matter of seconds for detention officers to discover the armed revolver \u201chidden\u201d near Petway\u2019s \u201cgroin area.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>An example of the scanner used. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Immediately, and, presumably carefully, Nash County detention officers retrieved the deeply concealed wheel gun and handed it over to officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department, who had made the initial arrest. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough it is unknown what the suspect\u2019s motives may have been had the weapon not been discovered, this incident could have easily ended badly for detention officers or current inmates,\u201d Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2022\/05\/09\/man-charged-after-deputies-say-he-tried-smuggle-gun-into-jail\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" abetting armed robbery, according to local news affiliate <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox46.com\/crime-and-public-safety\/nc-suspect-hid-gun-inside-body-cavity-at-jail-deputies-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"north-carolina-robbery-suspect-caught-with-loaded-gun-inside-body-cavity\" title=\"North Carolina Robbery Suspect Caught with Loaded Gun Inside \u2018Body Cavity\u2019\u00a0\">Fox46<\/a><\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will now also face charges for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon by a prisoner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tek-84 body scanner used to discover the gun was purchased last year with COVID relief funds for $150,000. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of recent events, it seems
