Col. Allen West may challenge the leadership of Wayne Lapierre at this year\u2019s NRA Annual Meetings &amp; Exhibits in Houston, TX. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>West is being urged to take on the LaPierre, the current exec. vice president (EVP), by a group of current and former NRA board members and lifetime members. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need a new leader who will work to resolve the outstanding litigation in New York and the District of Columbia,\u201d said former NRA Board member Rocky Marshall in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnly then will the NRA be able to effectively serve all members, especially in the crucial upcoming elections, and get the NRA back to serving our members and reaching out to the 7.5 million new gun owners since 2019,\u201d he added.&nbsp; \u201cWe think Allen West is that leader.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LaPierre has been at the helm of the organization for 31 years.&nbsp; Only once before has he been challenged as EVP. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/nra-reacts-to-ghost-gun-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"west-may-make-a-run-to-unseat-lapierre-at-nra-annual-meetings\" title=\"West May Make A Run to Unseat LaPierre At NRA Annual Meetings\u00a0\">NRA Reacts to \u2018Ghost Gun\u2019 Ban<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Critics of LaPierre point to the organization\u2019s admission, following an internal audit in 2019, that under his leadership certain executives received \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/shannon-watts-on-nra-bankruptcy-hearing-gun-lobby-is-broken\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"west-may-make-a-run-to-unseat-lapierre-at-nra-annual-meetings\" title=\"West May Make A Run to Unseat LaPierre At NRA Annual Meetings\u00a0\">excess benefits<\/a>\u201d while on the job, including LaPierre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, LaPierre has since \u201ccorrected\u201d his individual misappropriation of funds, cutting a $300,000 personal check directly to the organization for travel expenses from 2015 to 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, those backing West believe it is time for a change given the organization\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nynmedia.com\/content\/new-york-ag-letitia-james-seeks-nra-babysitter\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"west-may-make-a-run-to-unseat-lapierre-at-nra-annual-meetings\" title=\"West May Make A Run to Unseat LaPierre At NRA Annual Meetings\u00a0\"> ongoing legal issues<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter watching the NRA&#8217;s Bankruptcy hearings, reviewing the evidence presented and New York law, I have concluded that the likelihood of the NYAG winning her lawsuit against Wayne La Pierre and the other defendants is very high,&#8221; said current NRA Board member, Hon. Phillip Journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If she wins, they will be prohibited from serving in any NY non-profit. Wayne will be removed from office by court order,&#8221; he continued.  &#8220;As an NRA member and a member of its Board of Directors, I have a duty to plan for that contingency. I know Col. Allen West will make a great Executive Vice President of the NRA.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for West, he has not fully committed to the mission just yet. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI guess I\u2019ll have to go into prayer about this and make sure this is something that the Lord would have me do,\u201d West said in an interview, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-05-05\/nra-s-lapierre-could-face-challenge-from-texas-gop-s-allen-west\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"west-may-make-a-run-to-unseat-lapierre-at-nra-annual-meetings\" title=\"West May Make A Run to Unseat LaPierre At NRA Annual Meetings\u00a0\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If he did run, he told <em>Bloomberg<\/em> he would seek to restore the \u201chonor, the character and the competency\u201d of the
