The reported decline of the National Rifle Association<\/a> has left an apparent vacuum in the gun rights lobby, and Donald Trump, Jr., thinks he can fill it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former president\u2019s son announced this week the launch of the Second Amendment Task Force, which the younger Trump will chair as it works to combat threats to the right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Second Amendment is the whole ballgame; it’s the freedom that protects all of our other freedoms. Unfortunately the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress are hellbent on eroding our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, whether it’s nominating radical gun-grabbers to senior positions in the executive branch or pushing anti-gun legislation,” Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0“The Second Amendment Task Force is entirely devoted to ensuring the Left is never successful in disarming American citizens.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the organization\u2019s \u201cAbout<\/a>\u201d page, Trump, Jr., takes credit for sinking David Chipman\u2019s nomination to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This experience, the website states, \u201cmade Don Jr. realize that there was an opportunity to better organize pro-Second Amendment efforts and dominate the modern, digital battlefield of ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group is \u201claser-focused\u201d on engaging grassroots activists in the fight against gun control. This \u201cspecial ops team of advocates\u201d will work to combat Biden\u2019s nominees and oppose executive or legislative action that weakens the Second Amendment rights of the American people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Second Amendment Task Force plans to build its operation around Trump, Jr.\u2019s, high social media visibility as well as his national media appearances, according to Fox News Digital<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The website includes a way to sign up to \u201cTake Action\u201d and to donate, but so far, it\u2019s unclear how the group will be structured or what immediate actions it plans to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump, Jr., has never been shy about voicing his love for hunting and shooting sports. He regularly attends trade shows like the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits as well as the NSSF\u2019s SHOT Show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, there were even rumors<\/a> that he could unseat Wayne LaPierre as the NRA\u2019s executive vice president. Trump, Jr., dismissed those claims as \u201cfake news\u201d at the time, but he apparently still held some ambition to head a gun-rights organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Trump, Jr., lobbied hard against David Chipman\u2019s nomination to head the ATF. He reportedly<\/a> spoke to lawmakers about his views, published op-eds slamming Chipman, and encouraged his supporters to lobby against the nominee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s unclear how much Trump, Jr.\u2019s, efforts affected the ultimate outcome (virtually every gun rights organization was also lobbying against Chipman), but the White House eventually pulled the nomination after it became clear they wouldn\u2019t receive enough support in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
