In a move that surprised no one, New York City Mayor Eric Adams called for a \u201cnational\u201d gun control response after a would-be mass murderer opened fire on a crowded subway train last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adams is only the latest mayor of a major American city to deflect blame for rising crime onto guns and the federal government\u2019s supposed inaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe problem we\u2019re facing\u2026 is in our entire nation right now. And that is why\u2026 we need a national response to this issue,\u201d Adams told CNN<\/em>. The mayor bragged about how the NYPD had been able to confiscate 1,800 guns in the last three months but called on the ATF to continue to assist those efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere are so many things we could do to assist the cities across America\u2026 to make sure we\u2019re a safe place for our residents,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After NYC subway shooting, @NYCMayor<\/a> calls for a "national response" on gun control. Adams\u2019 call for national support comes just a few days after President Joe Biden announced a final rule aimed at banning homemade firearm kits. As GunsAmerica reported<\/a> at the time, the new rule would:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Biden also nominated U.S. Attorney Steve Dettelbach to become director of the ATF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A lone attacker opened fire on a crowded New York City subway train last week after releasing smoke grenades. He fired 33 shots from a Glock 9mm handgun, which he purchased in Columbus, Ohio,<\/a> in 2011. The gun reportedly jammed<\/a> as he was trying to unload three extended magazines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ten people suffered gunshot wounds while at least another 13 were injured from smoke inhalation or other causes. So far, no one has died<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Adams is only the latest in a long line of mayors to blame their city\u2019s rising violence on firearms.
