(<em>Photo: Whitehouse.gov)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) blasted President Joe Biden this week for repeating a widely discredited claim about the 2A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his announcement Monday that his administration would ban <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/breaking-biden-announces-nationwide-ghost-gun-ban-nominates-new-atf-director\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"bidens-a-broken-record-president-keeps-telling-this-lie-about-2a\" title=\"Biden\u2019s A Broken Record: President Keeps Telling This Lie About 2A\">so-called \u201cghost guns,\u201d<\/a> Biden said the following, \u201cFrom the very beginning, the Second Amendment didn\u2019t say you could own any gun you want and big as you want. You couldn\u2019t buy a cannon when in fact the Second Amendment passed. And certain people from the very beginning weren\u2019t allowed to purchase guns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a lie, as CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery time Joe Biden repeats this canard,\u201d observed Gottlieb, \u201che reinforces the notion that he is a habitual, pathological liar. Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler last year publicly corrected this falsehood, noting it wasn\u2019t the first time he had been fact-checked on the claim. By now, anybody else would have learned to keep his mouth shut, but Biden evidently just can\u2019t let go of a good fib.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It definitely wasn\u2019t the first time Biden\u2019s been called out for this fib.&nbsp; Back in 2021, news<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/fact-check-biden-says-second-amendment-limits-gun-rights\/19758274\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"bidens-a-broken-record-president-keeps-telling-this-lie-about-2a\" title=\"Biden\u2019s A Broken Record: President Keeps Telling This Lie About 2A\"> affiliate WRAL<\/a> also took the president to task.&nbsp; Their independent fact-checkers noted the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Biden said that from the start, the Second Amendment \u201climited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own.\u201d&nbsp; The Second Amendment limited government power, not the rights of individuals. Laws at the time that limited firearm ownership were primarily racist, aimed at controlling Black people and Native Americans.&nbsp; Broadly, gun regulation came decades after passage of the Second Amendment when gun technology changed. The first national gun regulation law did not rely on the Second Amendment.We rate Biden\u2019s claim False.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, private citizens could own cannons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBiden has been repeating this tale for at least two years, and probably longer,\u201d Gottlieb said. \u201cHonestly, we\u2019ve got to challenge everything he says about the Second Amendment, about gun rights and gun ownership in this country. He isn\u2019t just wrong; he is wrong-headed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow is a good time for Americans to wonder what else about gun rights Joe Biden has been lying about,\u201d Gottlieb continued. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just an idle error, it\u2019s an obsession with him. He has been trying to misrepresent and even discredit the Second Amendment\u2019s protection of the right of individual citizens to keep and bear arms for decades, even when he\u2019s caught and called out for it.
