{"id":160725,"date":"2022-03-10T12:24:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-10T17:24:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=160725"},"modified":"2022-03-10T12:24:58","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T15:13:20","slug":"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another Midwestern state is on the verge of passing constitutional carry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ohio-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">Buckeye State General Assembly did last week<\/a>, the Hoosier State General Assembly this week sent permitless carry legislation to the governor\u2019s desk to be signed into law. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known as <a href=\"https:\/\/iga.in.gov\/legislative\/2022\/bills\/house\/1296\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">House Bill 1296<\/a>, the legislation would allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms without a state-issued permit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHoosiers value their Second Amendment rights, yet under the current regime they are forced to ask the government for extra permission in order to exercise the fundamental right of carrying a firearm for self-defense,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20220308\/nra-backed-constitutional-carry-passes-indiana-legislature\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">said<\/a> John Weber, NRA state director in Indiana.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"see-also-ohio-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ohio-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">Ohio Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NRA is proud to have played a key role in getting this bill to the governor\u2019s desk and we hope he will sign it,\u201d Weber continued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Eric Holcomb, a Republican, has not indicated as of yet whether he will sign or veto the bill. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But given the tailwind behind the constitutional carry movement \u2014 21 states have passed some version of it thus far \u2014 many believe it\u2019s likely that Gov. Holcomb follows suit. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under current law, Indiana has a shall-issue permitting system that runs about $50 for a five-year license.&nbsp; The system will remain in place for those Hoosiers that want a permit for carry reciprocity with other states. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opponents of the bill claim that it puts lives at risk.&nbsp; Of course, there\u2019s no evidence to support that argument, as GunsAmerica previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/research-constitutional-carry-does-not-result-in-higher-murder-or-violent-crime-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">reported<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"see-also-research-constitutional-carry-does-not-result-in-higher-murder-or-violent-crime-rates\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/research-constitutional-carry-does-not-result-in-higher-murder-or-violent-crime-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-lawmakers-pass-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Indiana Lawmakers Pass Constitutional Carry!\">Research: Constitutional Carry Does Not Result in Higher Murder or Violent Crime Rates<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnti-self defense activists try to mislead the public by saying this legislation will allow criminals to carry \u2014 nothing could be further from the truth,\u201d noted Weber.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSimilar bills have passed in 21 other states and there has been no resulting increase in crime.
