Leary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLocal, state and federal law enforcement agencies are helping us hold repeat and violent offenders accountable for their continued criminal activities,\u201d continued Leary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with his felony conviction, Shearry has four priors for various drug distribution charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers say Shearry acknowledge his status as a prohibited person but nonetheless obtained the firearms anyways.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"see-also-atf-cracking-down-on-homemade-suppressors-asking-for-self-incriminating-photos\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/atf-cracking-down-on-homemade-suppressors-asking-for-self-incriminating-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"enforcing-existing-laws-work-career-criminal-gets-15-years-for-unlawful-possession\" title=\"Enforcing Existing Laws Work!\u00a0 \u2018Career Criminal\u2019 Gets 15 Years for Unlawful Possession\">ATF Cracking Down on Homemade Suppressors, Asking for Self-Incriminating Photos<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis sentence makes it very clear that criminals who repeatedly break the law and continue to possess illegal firearms, will be held accountable with lengthy prison terms,\u201d said Philip Wislar, Acting Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk added, \u201cThis is another great example of the agencies working together to take another armed career criminal off the streets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that it didn\u2019t require any additional gun-control laws to put this convicted drug dealer behind bars.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t need to ban homemade guns or outlaw certain gun parts or criminalize private transfers to nab this guy.\u00a0 Existing federal law was enough!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Combine the laws already on the books with a helpful tip from the public, coordinate police work across several agencies and a determined prosecutor who does not believe in handling repeat offenders with kid gloves (\u201cthere is no parole in the federal system\u201d as Leary\u2019s office made clear to mention in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mdga\/pr\/armed-career-criminal-sentenced-15-years-unlawfully-possessing-firearms\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"enforcing-existing-laws-work-career-criminal-gets-15-years-for-unlawful-possession\" title=\"Enforcing Existing Laws Work!\u00a0 \u2018Career Criminal\u2019 Gets 15 Years for Unlawful Possession\"> press release<\/a>) and we have a recipe for success when it comes to reducing crime and violence. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too bad we don\u2019t see more of this around the country.\u00a0 In fact, a recent article in the LA Times lamented the lack of engagement on this front in certain states, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2022-03-07\/skelton-gun-violence-restraining-orders-sacramento-killings\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"enforcing-existing-laws-work-career-criminal-gets-15-years-for-unlawful-possession\" title=\"Enforcing Existing Laws Work!\u00a0 \u2018Career Criminal\u2019 Gets 15 Years for Unlawful Possession\">California has the toughest gun laws in the U.S. That\u2019s irrelevant if they\u2019re not enforced.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"track-link-url-https-www-gunsamerica-com-campaign-buysellga-target-blank-buy-and-sell-on-gunsamerica-all-local-sales-are-free-track-link\">***<a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/\" campaign=\"BuySellGA_Register\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">Buy and Sell on GunsAmerica!<\/a>***<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Georgia man will spend the next 15 years behind bars for unlawful possession of firearms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":34,"featured_media":160666,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_specdata_upc":"","_specdata_placement":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[244,25,240,1],"tags":[132,535,607],"featured":[],"hunt365":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-160664","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-2nd-amendment-r2kba","8":"category-current-events","9":"category-this-week","10":"category-uncategorized","11":"tag-buzz","12":"tag-crime","13":"tag-news"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
