<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state of Alabama is instructing Nathan Kirk, the owner of Blount County Tactical<\/a>, to surrender his personalized license plate because it contains \u201cobjectionable language.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does it say exactly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, the plate itself simply reads, \u201cLGBFJB<\/a>\u201d with \u201cDon\u2019t Tread On Me\u201d written on the bottom.  This is apparently unacceptable to the bureaucrats who run the department. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Alabama Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division, has determined the above referenced license plate contains objectionable language,\u201d they wrote in a letter dated Feb. 17, addressed to Kirk\u2019s wife, Courtney, whose name the truck\u2019s officially registered under. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhich is considered by the Department to be offensive to the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirk told AL.com <\/a><\/em>that there’s nothing vulgar or obscene about the plate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI say \u201cforget,\u201d instead of the other word,\u201d he explained, suggesting an alternative interpretation could be L<\/strong>et’s G<\/strong>o B<\/strong>randon F<\/strong>orget<\/em> J<\/strong>oe B<\/strong>iden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy point is, it\u2019s letters,\u201d Kirk said, referencing the plate for which he paid $700 for back in October. \u201cIt could be my kid\u2019s initials. It could be my grandmother or grandfather. It\u2019s just letters. It doesn\u2019t spell anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirk said he’s received a lot of support from the community and is currently considering legal action to keep his plate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMost people only think it\u2019s free speech if it only represents a certain aspect of the country or a certain portion of the country, and that\u2019s not what the First Amendment is about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have the right to put a tag on my vehicle and it can say what I want it to say,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state, meanwhile, set a deadline for Kirk to comply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Failure to surrender the license plate within ten (10) days of receipt of this notice will result in the revocation of the vehicle registration,” the letter reads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Please be advised that operation of a vehicle with revoked registration may subject the vehicle owner to a maximum fine of $500 for the first offense and $1,000 for the second or subsequent offense,” it continues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
